The Issue

An 868 MWh Mega-Battery Facility is Hiding in Our Backyard

The proposed "Starlight Solar Project" in Boulevard is not just a simple solar farm. It is a massive, heavy industrial 868 Megawatt-Hour Lithium-Ion Battery Storage Facility spanning 588 acres. This is a textbook case of Green Colonialism: corporate developers are turning our rural community into an industrialized "sacrifice zone" to power wealthy coastal cities. They get the profits; we get 100% of the life-threatening risks.

WHY THIS PROJECT IS A DEATH SENTENCE FOR BOULEVARD:🔥 High Wildfire & Chemical Risk: Our under-resourced local fire departments are not equipped to handle a catastrophic lithium-ion battery fire. A failure could unleash toxic gas plumes and chemical runoff which is detrimental to the health of our families,  animals, water and soil.

💧 Threat to Our Only Water Source: Chemical runoff from a battery disaster risks permanently poisoning our soil and our sole-source groundwater aquifer, making our properties unlivable.

.🛣️ Evacuation Bottlenecks: The project sits right on Jewel Valley Road—a critical, already narrow evacuation route. A wildfire crisis will trap residents.

WE CANNOT SHELTER IN PLACE many of our neighbors live in trailer's, motor homes, windows aren't sealed enough to protect them from the toxic chemicals released into the air. Children, families, animals are all at risk. They have to be able to get to safety.

📡 Digital Isolation: Many of us have no cell service or internet. Standard wireless or phone-app emergency alerts will fail completely in a fast-moving fire.

🏡 Unmapped Homes & Stranded Families: Many residents lack numbered street addresses for emergency notifications. Furthermore, many families share a single car that goes 60 miles away for work, leaving spouses and children completely stranded with no way out.

🏹 Destruction of Sacred Native Lands: The project inflicts irreversible damage on the ancestral landscapes and sacred heritage sites of the Kumeyaay Nation, ignoring tribal sovereignty.

WE ARE NOT SAFE.

THESE PROJECTS BELONG IN INDUSTRIAL AREAS WHERE THERE'S EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAMS, EVAC TEAMS, HAZMAT CREWS....

Please Google: Moss Landing BESS Fire , PG&E Elkhorn Fire , Otay BESS Fire, Escondido BESS Fire. These Lithium Battery Storage Facilities are starting fires, destroying the environment, putting the lives of our fire fighters and families at a serious risk.

"WE SUPPORT CLEAN ENERGY—BUT IT BELONGS ON URBAN ROOFTOPS, NOT DESTROYING OUR WATER, OUR SAFETY, AND OUR HOMES.

Thank you everyone, God bless you

Sincerely, your neighbors and friends in Boulevard
