Did you read the article in the Easy Reader? Swimming pool opportunities are finally emerging (details below)… but without community support and City leadership, they could slip away—again. Here are 3 ways you can help right now:
1. Email Parks & Rec (takes 2 minutes!)
Make sure the pool is top of mind for Parks and Rec commissioners for their meeting on Thursday. They want to hear the challenges you or your family face because Hermosa Beach doesn’t have a public pool.

2. Show up for Parks & Rec meeting THIS THURSDAY April 16 at 6p
Be present during the public comments (probably done by 6:30p) -- speak or simply be present in support of a community pool. Our leaders pay attention when we take time out of our lives to show up. (Meeting is in Council Chambers, 1315 Valley Drive). You have kids? BRING THEM (see below).
3. Make sure kids speak up
Hermosa students were given a Parks & Rec survey—please have your child include “swimming pool” and turn it in. This survey is open to all Hermosa youth (Pre-K through high school), so please share the survey and spread the word that the city is ASKING kids for their input! Kids at the Parks and Recreation meeting? That's a needle mover.
NOW, Here’s the progress we’re seeing:
Beach Cities Health District (BCHD)
BCHD is planning a senior pool—and thanks to HPI conversations, two major wins:
- The pool is now being designed to serve the disabled community!
- With community input, there may be a possibility to include swim lessons for kids!
* Located just over 190th on Prospect
* Expected at no cost to Hermosa residents
* Public input meeting: May 8 (details coming soon)
Redondo Beach Opportunity (Seaside Lagoon)
Redondo Beach is hoping to put a pool next to Seaside Lagoon—but we're hearing that funding is currently missing. Rb has long been open to partnering with Hermosa Beach, and if we engage, we could help shape—and potentially expand—this project.
Viable locations in Hermosa Beach
- Self-storage site next to City Hall (if taken down to accommodate the temporary city yard project - this locations nearly an acre in size!)
- The Community Center campus (our recommendation: relocate tennis courts)
- City Yard, which is by South Park (if moved permanently next to City Hall or moved to Redondo Beach as part of a joint use agreement)
- Valley Park
Why this matters
We’ve learned something critical:
Because Hermosa hasn’t been actively pursuing a pool, major opportunities have already been lost.
A large-scale pool project was once proposed at BCHD—but it faded due to lack of awareness and public support.
We cannot let that happen again.
For over 50 years, a swimming pool has been Hermosa Beach’s most requested recreational facility.
Now, the opportunities are here—but they need momentum.
Take action now
Please send a quick email today to Parks and Rec commissioners:
dg_parksreccommission@hermosabeach.gov
Tell them why Hermosa Beach needs a swimming pool—and ask them to actively pursue these opportunities. We're asking them to form a subcommittee to formally explore what it would take to build a pool in or near Hermosa Beach (with or without the help of neighboring cities).
Our progress is because of you — thank you for being part of this movement.
