We, Malaysian teachers, participated in the training provided by the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council in China in the year 2017. Before and during the training in China, we were informed that all candidates (regardless of nationality) would be granted the Overseas Chinese Language Teacher Certificate if we passed the examinations.

However, after waiting for almost one year for the examination papers to be marked and graded, at the end of 2018, we were told that they would not grant the Overseas Chinese Language Teacher Certificate to the candidates from Malaysia and Indonesia, contradicting what they told us before and during the training and examination period.

We feel we are being cheated. We are teachers who study and work extremely hard. We traveled to China for the 3-week training, whilst leaving our families back at home. We understand the sacrifice that is needed to pursue our careers, but with this sudden breaking of the “promise”, our sacrifices are not validated. We hope you understand our situation and grant us the certificates.
