Give us a chance to have a future with our children

Give us a chance to have a future with our children
The Issue
Kodomap is a Japanese non-profit organization working to build a society where LGBTQ people can choose to have a future with children.
Currently, discussions are underway regarding national legislation on assisted reproductive technologies (ART) (a bill on specific assisted reproductive technologies). The bill is being drafted to include a clause that states that only married couples can utilize assisted reproductive technologies using sperm donated by a third party. Currently, because the law does not specify who can take advantage of ART using sperm donated by a third party, single women and same-sex couples have been able to receive treatment at some medical institutions. If the law is amended, it is highly likely that they will no longer be able to receive treatment at medical institutions.
This would (1) make it more difficult for single women and same-sex female couples to have children, (2) increase the number of people having children in an unsafe environment due to private transactions, and (3) because private transactions cannot be regulated by law, the identity of the donor may not be known, or the number of siblings born from the same sperm donor may not be known, or the child may not have the right to know their biological parent. (3)
There is a possibility that children who have already been born through assisted reproductive technologies by third-party sperm donation will have negative perceptions about their births. We ask that the amendment be extended to all people who wish to have a baby, not just married couples.
