I have compiled more than 40 articles about Taiwan's entrance at the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics (see below), but not a single article mentioned the significance of the fact that the whole stadium turned green when the Taiwanese athletes entered. Green is the color of the Taiwan Independence Movement.
According to its Wikipedia entry, "The Taiwan independence movement is a political movement to seek formal international recognition of Taiwan as an independent, sovereign state and in opposition to Chinese unification."
Most major countries, including Japan and the United States, cut off formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan several decades ago in order to appease the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
I believe that Japan, the United States, and other democracies should stand up to the CCP and reverse this decision. Taiwan deserves to be treated as an equal member of the international community.
By turning the stadium green when Taiwan entered at the opening ceremony, was Japan tacitly signaling that it is ready to recognize Taiwan's independent status? I hope so.
