ช่วงหลายเดือนที่ผ่านมา กระแสการปฏิรูปได้เติบโตขึ้นเป็นอย่างมาก ในแวดวงการศึกษาก็เช่นเดียวกัน มีกระแสการปฏิรูปต่างๆเกิดขึ้นมากมาย แต่ก็นับเป็นเรื่องน่าเศร้าที่โครงการ'ปฏิรูป'เหล่านั้นล้วนแล้วแต่เป็นเพียงโครงการแนวอนุรักษ์นิยมจากคนใหญ่คนโตในกระทรวงเท่านั้น ไม่ได้มีการรับฟังเสียงของนักเรียนอย่างแท้จริง ส่งผลให้เกิดโครงการอันพิลึกพิลั่นต่างๆอาทิเช่นการมีแนวคิดจะใช้สมุดบันทึกความดีเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการเข้ามหาวิทยาลัย เป็นต้น ซึ่งแนวคิดเหล่านี้ได้ถูกพับเก็บออกไปด้วยเสียงคัดค้านของประชาชน

มาถึงตอนนี้.."ค่านิยม 12 ประการ" นวัตกรรมชิ้นใหม่ล่าสุดของระบบการศึกษาแบบอำนาจนิยมได้ปรากฏสู่สายตาของสาธารณชน และกำลังจะถูกนำไปใช้ในภาคเรียนที่ 2/2557 นี้แล้ว รัฐบาลของพลเอกประยุทธ จันทร์โอชา ได้ผลักดันแนวคิดค่านิยมเหล่านี้อย่างต่อเนื่องโดยไม่สนใจเสียงคัดค้านของประชาชน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเสียงจากกลุ่มนักเรียนซึ่งเป็นผู้ได้รับผลกระทบโดยตรงก็ถูกเมินเฉย นี่เป็นเพียงจุดเริ่มต้นเท่านั้น..หากเครื่องมือแห่งระบอบอำนาจนิยมชุดนี้ถูกบังคับใช้ สถานะของนักเรียนไทยคงไม่ต่างอะไรจากผู้ใต้บังคับบัญชา ไม่มีจิตวิญญาณแห่งการตั้งคำถาม การสงสัยใคร่รู้ เพราะทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างถูกยัดเยียดให้แล้ว ความคิดเสรีถูกตีกรอบด้วยการห้ามตั้งคำถาม ผลผลิตที่ได้คือผู้เรียนที่มีจิตวิญญาณความเป็นทาส คิดทุกอย่างเหมือนๆกันหมด

แนวคิดและอุดมการณ์ของปัจเจกเป็นสิ่งที่ไม่สามารถบังคับได้ และต่อให้ค่านิยมทั้ง 12 ข้อจะถูกต้องในสายตาของผู้กำหนดเพียงใด การปลูกฝังให้เยาวชนคิดเหมือนท่านทั้งหมดโดยห้ามคิดแย้ง ห้ามตั้งคำถาม ห้ามสงสัย นั้นไม่ต่างอะไรไปจากการล้างสมอง การศึกษาที่มองผู้เรียนเป็นเพียงภาชนะอันว่างเปล่าไม่สามารถสร้างผู้เรียนที่มีทักษะคิดวิเคราะห์ได้ ประเทศไทยได้ติดอยู่ในวังวนของการยัดเยียด"ค่านิยม"มาหลายทศวรรษแล้ว ควรแล้วหรือที่จะปล่อยให้การศึกษาไทยติดอยู่ในหล่มเดิมๆอย่างซ้ำซากเช่นนี้?

นักการศึกษาในศตวรรษที่ 21 ไม่ควรดูถูกความคิดของผู้เรียน เยาวชนนั้นอายุยังน้อย ประสบการณ์อาจยังอ่อนด้อยไปกว่าท่าน แต่ความคิดของพวกเราเต็มเปี่ยมไปด้วยพลังแห่งวัยเยาว์อันควรค่าแก่การรับฟัง การใช้อัตตาเรื่องความอาวุโสปิดกั้นความคิดจึงเป็นเพียงการเพิ่มความเขลาในตัวท่านเองเท่านั้น ไม่ก่อประโยชน์อันใดเลย

เยาวชนมีความคิด โปรดเปิดใจรับฟัง และร่วมพัฒนาการศึกษาร่วมกันกับพวกเราเถิด

Efforts to reform Thailand have been substantially growing in recent months, including efforts to reform the Thai education system. Unfortunately, those reforms turn out to be conservative projects by elites of the education ministry. Voices of students were not taken seriously. This has led to controversial projects such as the merit passport as a requirement for university enrollment. Thanks to people's strong opposition, the project was later cancelled.

Now, the "12 core values," the latest innovation of authoritarian education system, are presented to the public and students will be required to recite them in the second semester of year 2014 onward. The government of general Prayuth Chan-ocha has supported such values, ignoring people's oppositions. Especially, voices of students who are directly affected by such values are taken for granted. This is just the beginning. If these compulsory values, which are tools of authoritarianism, come into effect, Thai students are nothing but subordinates who have no critical mind or intellectual curiosity. Everything is pre-programmed and freedom of thought is limited. No one can question anything. This results in a slavish mindset of students who believe and think the same.

Attitudes and ideologies of individuals cannot be forced. Also, no matter how moral the “12 core values” seems to be for the ruler, forcing students to hold such same values and prohibiting them from criticizing those values is no different from brainwashing. An education system that treats students like empty containers cannot create learners who can think critically. Thailand is still stuck in the cycle of manipulating “values” for decades. Should we let the vicious cycle continue in this manner?

Educators of the 21th century should not look down on students. We may be young and have less experiences than the adults, but our thoughts are full of youthful vigor. Their voices deserve to be heard. If seniority and ego are used to silence the younger, no benefit will accrue and ignorance of those in authority will remain. Young people can think by themselves. The authorities need to open up their minds and they, together with students at large, shall jointly improve the education system.
