Due to the unavailability of a direct train from Haripad and Ambalapuzha to Ernakulam during peak hours, numerous inhabitants are subject to inconsistent transport schedules and burdening expenses. Despite the ever-growing demand for a direct train service in this route, no constructive steps have been taken to address it. There is MEMU service from Alappuzha to Ernakulam in the morning but passengers want to travel kilometers in bus and private vehicles to the Alappuzha railway station.

The only option to go to Ernakulam from Haripad/Ambalapuzha directly through train is to travel in 16606 Ernad Express which reaches Ernakulam Jn too early before office hours (07:40 AM).

A MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train from Kayamkulam to Ernakulam via Alappuzha would be an effective, energy-efficient, and cost-effective solution to this issue. MEMU trains are known for their quick acceleration, thereby making them suitable for frequent stoppages and short commutes.

By establishing a MEMU train service, the commute time for Cheppad, Haripad, Karuvatta, Thakazhi, Ambalappuzha and Punnapra residents to Ernakulam could be considerably reduced. It would encourage more people to use public transport, leading to reduced road traffic congestion and making a strong push towards a cleaner, greener society. One option is to start a new MEMU service from Kayamkulam/Kollam to Ernakulam which reach before 9:30 AM. Another is to extend 66314 Alappuzha - Ernakulam Jn MEMU to Kayamkulam Jn/Kollam Jn - Ernakulam Jn MEMU. Any two solutions will solve the problem of this lack of train availability.
