Við biðlum til Íslenskra stjórnvalda að veita vini okkar, Uhunoma Osayomore, alþjóðlega vernd eða dvalarleyfi af mannúðarsjónarmiðum á Íslandi.

Uhunoma er 21. árs og er frá Nígeríu. Árið 2016, þegar hann var aðeins 16 ára gamall, flúði hann frá heimili sínu í Nígeríu eftir að faðir hans myrti móður hans og yngri systir lést af slysförum.

Hann fór til Lagos, höfuðborgar landsins, og lenti þar í höndum þrælasala sem seldu hann mansali og upphófst þar með hræðilegt ferðalag sem leiddi hann til Íslands í október 2019. Á leiðinni upplifði hann hryllilega hluti, varð vitni að morðum, var haldið föngnum í fjárhúsi og varð ítrekað fyrir kynferðislegu ofbeldi. Í þrjú ár bjó hann í flóttamannaíbúðum á Ítalíu.

Hann hóf ferðalagið sem barn en endaði á Íslandi sem einstæður fullorðinn maður.
Saga Uhunoma er lengri en svo að við getum sagt frá henni hér en það mun koma að því.

Eftir rúmt ár á Íslandi hefur Uhunoma eignast nýtt líf og ástríka fjölskyldu og vini, sem er eitthvað sem hann hefði ekki getað ímyndað sér fyrir örfáum árum síðan. Hann á heimili með Íslenskri fjögurra barna fjölskyldu og á vini sem geta ekki hugsað sér að missa hann úr lífi sínu og í þær hræðilegu aðstæður sem bíða hans á Ítalíu eða Nígeríu.

Sótt var um tímabundið atvinnuleyfi fyrir Uhunoma, sem var hafnað, en hans bíður atvinna um leið og leyfi fyrir hann fæst til að vinna hér á landi.

Uhunoma þarfnast engrar aðstoðar íslenska ríkisins og á sér aðeins þá einu ósk að fá að lifa óttalausu lífi sem fullgildur borgari á Íslandi með fjölskyldu sinni og vinum.

Nú er komið að því að íslensk stjórnvöld ætla að vísa Uhunoma úr landi, jafnvel þótt hans málsmeðferð sé enn í gangi, og ætla stjórnvöld þannig, enn einu sinni, að vísa fórnarlambi mansals úr landi og til baka í aðstæður sem eru honum lífshættulegar.

Það sem ungur maður með þessa fortíð þarf er sálgæsla, öryggi og væntumþykja. Hér þarf að byggja upp brotna sál en ekki varpa henni aftur út í þær aðstæður sem brutu hana.

Save Uhunoma!

We call on the Icelandic government to grant our friend Uhunoma Osayomore international protection or a residence permit in Iceland for humanitarian reasons.

Uhunoma is 21 years old and is from Nigeria. In 2016, aged only 16, he fled his home in Nigeria after his father murdered his mother and his younger sister was killed in an accident.

He went to Lagos, the capital of the country, and got into the hands of slave traders who sold him for human trafficking. Thus began the terrible journey that led him to Iceland in October 2019. Along theway, he was faced with horrific experiences, witnessed murders, was held captive in a barn and repeatedly subjected to sexual violence. For three years he lived in refugee housing in Italy.

Uhunoma started his journey as a child but ended up in Iceland as a single adult. Of course his story is longer than what we can tell here, but it will come to that.

After little more than a year in Iceland, Uhunoma has started a new life, found a loving family and made many friends, which is something he could not have imagined just a few years ago.

He lives with an Icelandic family of six and has friends who cannot for one single moment imagine losing him to the terrible conditions that await him in Italy or Nigeria.

A temporary work permit was applied for for Uhunoma, which was rejected, although he has a job waiting as soon as a permit is obtained for him to work in this country.

Uhunoma needs no assistance from the Icelandic state and has only one wish: to live a life devoid of fear as a legal citizen of Iceland with his Icelandic family and friends.

The Icelandic government now intends to deport Uhunoma, despite the fact that his application is currently being processed, and so doing once again intends to deport a victim of human trafficking, sending him back to a life-threatening situation.

What a young person with this kind of past needs is moral support, security and affection. His is a broken life that needs to be rebuilt, not thrown back into the situation that broke it.
