Urgent Ban on new wildlife culling Shark nets and Drum lines in Tinley Manor, South Africa
The Issue
New shark nets and drumlines are about to be installed along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, including Tinley Manor, Headlands, and Ballito, putting endangered dolphins, rays, sharks, and turtles at risk.
These outdated devices kill marine life indiscriminately, destroying the delicate balance of our ocean ecosystems. The sawfish is already extinct in South Africa because of shark nets, and the great white shark could be next.
We all want safer beaches, but lethal culling is not the answer. Other regions have already moved to modern, non-lethal solutions like shark spotters, drones, and improved lifeguard programmes, protecting both people and marine life.
Join us in calling on local authorities to stop the new installations and choose sustainable alternatives. Together, we can protect our coastline and the incredible creatures that call it home.
Sign now to stop the killing.
Additionally, we encourage you to contact the developer promoting these installations to voice your concern and call for responsible, non-lethal solutions,
