Milton-Parc Needs Help NOW

Le problème

On Sunday, July 18 2021 a second fence was erected on the corner of Milton / Parc. This fence has blocked off the remainder of the parking lot people formerly found respite in. The overhang across the street was also recently blocked off. This leaves NOWHERE for our community members to sit. The area is also used for many bus stops which means there is a lot of foot traffic which will cause issues now that people are only able to sit on the sidewalk. Following the death of Kitty last summer, another tragedy is imminent if there are no immediate responses taken by the city to remedy this situation.

1. The city needs to get in contact with Goldmanco Inc. and create a plan for how their unused property will move forward. If they have no plans to use the property the city MUST create a local safe space for Indigenous community members to reside. All plans must be shared publicly for full transparency

2. Benches must be added to every sidewalk at the Milton / Parc intersection so people have places to sit.

3. A water fountain and a handwashing station must be added to a sidewalk at the intersection.

4. The city must collaborate with Indigenous Organizations for how they plan to financially support programs to support the unhoused community.

5. Reduce the speed limit on Parc Avenue to 30 Kms/hr.

These are just the IMMEDIATE needs that need to be met or else the safety of our neighbours will be at GREAT risk of danger or death. Much more work needs to be done in order to support our unhoused neighbours and cohabitation in our community but at the moment this situation concerns SAFETY and the LIFE or DEATH situation at hand.

Montreal stated it wanted to be a leader in reconciliation. Many of our neighbours are residential school survivors, ind*an day school survivors, intergenerational residential school survivors, sixty scoop survivors and Millenial scoop survivors. Having Indigenous Peoples at risk of imminent danger is NOT reconciliation. Indigenous lives matter. Inuit lives matter. Kitty's life mattered.

PLEASE SHARE AND ASK OUR CITY FOR BETTER FOR OUR INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY MEMBERS!!!
