Limit water extraction by BlueTriton Brands (aka Zephyrhills water) in Florida
The Issue
I'm a Florida native, and it deeply concerns me to see the reckless extraction of our precious drinking water by giant corporations, solely for profit. Companies like BlueTriton Brands., known as Zephyrhills water, are pumping millions of gallons of water daily from our naturally abundant and publicly owned Florida springs. Meanwhile, individuals and families in our state face strict restrictions on water usage, especially given the current drought conditions.
Florida is in crisis. The impacts of drought are not just a looming threat - they are upon us now. Our water levels are dwindling, and the demand on our water sources is intensifying. Yet, massive corporations continue to drain our natural resources with little consideration for sustainable practices. They pay merely a small application fee—between $150 and $500—for permits that allow them to profit immensely off of our water, while the community bears the brunt of limited water access.
This petition calls for an immediate reduction of water extraction by BlueTriton Brands. formally Nestle's water North America division . and similar companies to a maximum of 50,000 gallons per day. This figure is starkly lower than the millions extracted daily, yet it is crucial to preserve our springs and maintain an equitable water supply for all Floridians. By enforcing strict extraction limits, we uphold the rights of Florida residents to access clean and abundant drinking water without the threat of depletion.
We need to hold these companies accountable for their environmental impact and ensure that our public resources are not exploited for excessive private gain.
