The Issue

We work closely with a group of people who are speaking out about their experiences with mental health services across Wales, and what we are hearing is deeply worrying. Time and time again, people are coming forward with stories that show just how badly the system is failing them. It’s become clear that there needs to be a serious investigation into how mental health services in Wales are run, and meaningful changes must follow.

The experiences shared with us include poor and unsafe care, a lack of accountability, and people feeling ignored or dismissed when they reached out for help. Many were left feeling worse than when they first asked for support. These are not rare or isolated cases, they point to wider, ongoing problems within the system.
Mental health services in Wales have already been raised as a concern by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Care Inspectorate Wales, particularly around issues such as staff shortages, long waiting times, inconsistent care, and a lack of proper funding. When services are stretched this thin, people fall through the cracks and that’s exactly what’s happening.
Mental health should be treated with the same urgency and importance as physical health, but for many people in Wales, that simply isn’t the reality. Instead, vulnerable individuals are left waiting, struggling alone, or pushed from service to service without real support.

Something has to change. We need better funding, enough staff to provide safe and compassionate care, and shorter waiting times so people can access help when they actually need it. There also needs to be stronger oversight to make sure services are held accountable and that standards genuinely improve, not just on paper but in real people’s lives.

By committing to a proper, independent investigation into mental health services in Wales and acting on what it finds, we can start to rebuild trust and create a system that truly supports those who rely on it. The human cost of getting this wrong is far too high, and it’s time for those in power to take responsibility.

Please sign this petition to call on the Welsh Government to investigate and reform mental health services across Wales. Your support can help push for real change and a future where people are treated with dignity, care, and respect when they ask for help.
