Urge Warner Bros. to release "Happy Feet" on 4K Ultra HD
The Issue
On November 17, 2006, Happy Feet, Warner Bros.' computer-animated jukebox musical tale that featured messages about the dangers of overfishing, was released in cinemas in the United States. Directed by Mad Max director George Miller, the film featured a voice cast that included Lord of the Rings alumni Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy of King of the Hill fame, the late-great Robin Williams, Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving, and the "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin. The film featured a selection of classic songs performed by the film's voice cast, including Earth, Wind & Fire's "Boogie Wonderland," Queen's "Somebody to Love" and Stevie Wonder's "I Wish." The film ended up winning the 2006 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, beating Pixar's Cars and Columbia Pictures' Monster House (a film executive produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg) and was also nominated for the 2006 Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Motion Picture (the film lost to Cars).
As we approach the 20th anniversary of this Academy Award winning film, it would be an incredible tribute to remaster the film in 4K Ultra HD. Currently, the only options for us fans to enjoy the film in high definition are Blu-ray (which has a lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital EX track) or the now outdated HD DVD format (which has a lossless 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track; unfortunately, the HD DVD release is prone to the disc rot crisis that plagued Warner Bros. HD DVDs). For those of us who hold this film dear, a 4K release would not only rekindle our cherished memories but also introduce this magical experience to a new generation in the best quality possible (Warner Bros. released Tim Burton's Corpse Bride on 4K last year in honor of the film's 20th anniversary, complete with a lossless Dolby Atmos TrueHD track as opposed to the lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital EX track on the original Blu-ray).
The legacy of Happy Feet deserves to be preserved in the best form, allowing old fans and newcomers alike to appreciate the stunning animation and heartfelt story with the clarity and vibrancy that modern technology can provide. Moreover, a 4K release could breathe new life into sales and audience reach, aligning with the increasing demand for high-quality remastered content.
Join me in urging Warner Bros. to commemorate this milestone by giving Happy Feet the 4K treatment it truly deserves. Let's make sure that the incredible world of Mumble and his friends continues to touch hearts and tap feet across the globe.
Sign this petition and help make Happy Feet soar again for its 20th anniversary in stunning 4K Ultra HD.
