Restore the October 31st Census deadline for fair federal funding and representation

Restore the October 31st Census deadline for fair federal funding and representation
The Issue
If you haven't already filled out the census, don't let an undercount disqualify your community from its fair share of funding and representation. Help out your neighbors and your household by responding to the census today. For your convenience, here is the link. Need an overview of the questions before you start? Click here.
Every year.
That's a lot of tax dollars dedicated to hundreds of crucial priorities, from medicare, to schools, to hospiatals, to roads and bridges, to child welfare...the list is long. And the census decides how these funds are distributed.
Not just for the next year, or until the next administration.
For the next 10 years.
The census also will affect the value of your state's vote for an entire decade, including how many representatives your state has in Congress and how many votes your state will have in the electoral college.
In short, if you care about your community, you want to make sure your neighbor's counted.
Here's why that may not happen:
The deadline to fill out the census was, up until just a few weeks ago, October 31st. About 40% of your neighbors aren't filling out the census, so census enumerators have to go door to door to make sure everyone is counted, as well. Those operations were also supposed to end by October 31st.
Until suddenly, on August 3rd, the US Census made a stunning announcement: the time to respond -- online, by mail, by phone, through door-to-door enumerators, -- had been cut short by a whole month. September 30th instead of October 31st.
This, in spite of the fact that about 2 out of 5 of your neighbors hadn't filled out the census yet.
As a result, an undercount of your neighborhood is extremely likely.
But the Senate can restore the deadline so that your neighbors get counted. They just need to know that you want it.
That's what this petition is for.
If we don't convince the Senate to take action, your community will likely be undercounted. This will have devestating consequences for at least ten years. That is intolerable.
So please sign.
Too much is at stake. We have to get this done.
