Virginia Ann Foxx is a prominent American politician, educator, and businesswoman who has represented North Carolina's 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives since 2005. A dedicated member of the Republican Party, she has held key leadership roles, including Secretary of the House Republican Conference from 2013 to 2017. Foxx has also served as the Chair and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and Labor at various times since 2017. Her district covers much of northwestern North Carolina, including parts of Winston-Salem. Before her congressional career, Foxx served in the North Carolina Senate from 1994 to 2004. In academia, she earned a Bachelor’s in English, a Master’s in College Teaching, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has also been a professor at Appalachian State University and president of Mayland Community College. Foxx is known for her diverse career, including roles in education and business, such as owning a landscaping company.
