The Senato della Repubblica, commonly known as the Senate of the Republic, is one of the two houses of the Italian Parliament, with the other one being the Chamber of Deputies. It represents territorial subdivisions and is a crucial part of the legislative procedure, sharing equal power with the Chamber of Deputies in terms of approving laws and constitutional amendments. The Senate also plays a crucial role in situations such as declaring a state of emergency and impeachment proceedings. The members of the Senate, known as senators, are elected by Italian citizens aged 25 or older.
