Ryana Parks-Shaw is a prominent figure in Kansas City's political landscape, serving as the Councilwoman for the 5th District and Mayor Pro Tem. Elected to the Kansas City Council for District 5 in 2019, she was re-elected without opposition. In August 2023, she was appointed Mayor Pro Tem by Mayor Quinton Lucas. As Mayor Pro Tem, she acts as mayor when Quinton Lucas is unavailable. This appointment made her the first Black woman to hold this position in Kansas City's history.
