Monica Montgomery Steppe is currently serving as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, representing District 4. She was sworn in on December 5, 2023, and made history as the first Black woman elected to this position in the county's history.Before her election to the Board of Supervisors, Montgomery Steppe was a member of the San Diego City Council, where she represented District 4 from 2018 until her recent transition to the county board. During her time on the city council, she focused on issues such as criminal justice reform, public safety, and community development. Prior to her elected roles, she worked as a Criminal Justice Advocate for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties and held various positions in public service law, including advising on criminal justice and neighborhood revitalization
