Stop NSW Government WASTING $2B Rebuilding SFS & Olympic Stadiums

We, the undersigned, respectfully call on the Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian, and the NSW Cabinet, to reconsider their decision to knock down two perfectly fine sports stadiums - the Olympic Stadium and Sydney Football Stadium - at a staggering cost of $2Billion, to replace them with new ones, at a time when there is ZERO public demand to replace either. We are tired of taxpayer dollars being lavished on building facilities for Sports Big Business, while community sport withers on the vine for lack of facilities and resources. We, the undersigned concerned citizens of NSW, believe our money could be better spent with the likes of 100 X $10 million projects being funded across the state, so towns, suburbs and regions could see a thousand fields, pools, courts and arenas bloom, doing something for the wider people of NSW and not merely the tiny percentage involved in elite sport. We believe some of the money could be used to lower registration fees for kids playing a variety of sports, to remove the obstacles that prevent so many from participating. This would still allow nearly a billion dollars left over to refurbish the current stadiums, and put much-needed money into other community resources, like schools, hospitals, theatres, galleries, homeless shelters and the like. Again, we say, Premier Berejiklian, please reconsider.Thank you,The Concerned Citizens of NSW

Don't Kill Live Music

An open letter to music and culture lovers of Australia DON’T LET THE BEREJIKLIAN GOVERNMENT KILL LIVE MUSIC Dear music lovers, Your music is under attack.  Overbearing regulation, exorbitant police bills, a lack of respect for NSW businesses, and very little recognition of the significant positive impacts of music on our communities is forcing music out of NSW. The State Government has declared war on music and culture in NSW, proclaiming that music and music festivals are high-risk activities. Music is being killed off by Premier Berejiklian and the LNP. Festivals are being forced to cancel or move interstate. The NSW State Government is vilifying live music with knee-jerk regulation (more details here). Instead of consulting with festival experts, the NSW Government imposed punitive regulation that specifically targets music festivals and music fans. Festivals are being used as a scapegoat for years of failed drug and alcohol policy. We want our music culture to be safe and inclusive. Onerous and ill-considered regulation will not save lives. And the State Government is decimating our music culture in the process.  We demand that the State Government: - Stops killing live music in NSW- Forms a music regulation roundtable to review all regulation impacting live music- Immediately undertakes a Regulatory Impact Statement for any regulation impacting music festivals- Develops an industry standard with full transparency for user-pays policing and medical services - Works with the music industry to develop robust, effective and achievable safety protocols for festivals Don’t let the Premier Berejiklian and the State Government take music away from you. You deserve better. NSW deserves better. What can you do to help? SIGN THIS PETITIONAdd your name to this petition calling on the NSW Government to stop killing live music. Protect People who Ride Bikes with Proactive Enforcement of Safe Passing Distance

Every day the lives of decent hard-working cyclists are being threatened by a small minority of reckless drivers. Cameron was fatally hit by a ute, leaving behind a wife and three children. Lauren was cut-off by a sedan that knocked her from the road to the footpath, all caught on CCTV footage. Adrian was cycling to work when a car came so close on a roundabout that he thought he was about to die. Anastasia was killed after being struck by a truck, she was 23 years old. Neil was enjoying a pleasant National Park ride when a Police car shocked him with a dangerous close pass, shortly after the passing distance law was brought into place. James was hospitalised for weeks with horrific injuries after being hit by a sports car, while on a popular cycling route. Marc and Tom took definitive evidence to the Police (video and ultrasonic distance measurement), but were fobbed off by a misinformed and uncaring system. There have been thousands of victims of dangerous close passes since the law was changed, but only a handful of fines have been issued. How would you feel after an unsafe pass from a ute or van, to take the video evidence to your local police station, and be told by the officer that they wont even make a record of your incident (let alone start an investigation)? Stunned, angry, victimised, ignored, alone... This has happened to hundreds of cyclists across Australia. All States and Territories are implementing safe passing distance laws for vehicles when overtaking cyclists (with the exception of Victoria). The purpose of these rules is to reduce injuries and deaths to bike riders. But in practice the burden of evidence and prosecution has fallen onto the victims of dangerous close passes... This is grossly unfair!! Lives are being unnecessarily lost, and serious injuries are being sustained, for as long as Safe Passing Distance goes unenforced. As a coalition of cyclists, groups and concerned citizens we are calling out this injustice... Sign for your mates, for your family, and for our children to have safer roads than we ride on today. We the undersigned call on Governments and Police to proactively enforce Minimum Passing Distance (MPD), as an essential measure for improving Road Safety in Australia. Motorists observed making unsafe passes and other poor driving are pulled over, and either warned/educated/prosecuted. Police have also asked the public to submit video evidence, which has resulted in several hundred fines. Google "West Midlands Operation Close Pass" to see the impressive results of this cheap and effective Police action for yourself... This model is being rolled out by other Police in the UK, such as London, Hampshire and South Yorkshire... Two-thirds of the 50 American states are enforcing laws for a safe passing distance of at least 3 feet, with examples of proactive enforcement in Austin, Tampa and Memphis. After becoming visible, following the road rules, watching out for each other and riding defensively we still depend on motorists to give us space and respect on our roads... Just like speeding, mobile phone distractions and drink driving the Police should take a proactive approach to Minimum Passing Distance (MPD). These rules can't reverse an injury or death after the fact. They need to be proactively enforced. The safe passing distance rules require vehicles to give at least 1.0 metre of clearance to cyclists (up to speeds of 60 km/hour), and at least 1.5 metres clearance when overtaking in speed limit zones exceeding 60 km/hour. Motorists who do not comply with the law are liable for hundreds of dollars of fines and the loss of demerit points. Drivers are allowed to cross unbroken lines, and vehicles can go over flat traffic islands, in order to comply with the law. SAVE AUSTRALIAN ANIMALS/MARINE LIFE IN DANGER. Revise harmful Invasive Animal Legislations

To the Australian Politicians, Main Issue 1 a Your Environmental control systems are fragmented. See the big picture and have you ever witnessed so many animals get killed all over this country Australia! by Invasive Animals Australia. Is it not obvious that each territory is running a killing havoc with our precious animals and marine life. Its completely unnecessary and abnormal in forms of addressing these issues for farmers and their natural surroundings. Farmers can capture these animals in more humane ways, using traps then rangers taking these animals to zoos and sanctuaries, animal carers & WIRES. Main Issue 1 b. Can you please tidy up a reckless situation which includes MP Barnaby Joyce in the National Party for Australian Agriculture, (current update in December 2017...MP Barnaby is no longer in charge of the agriculture & water portfolio. Current update Feb 2018: Joyce have finally resigned to the back bench), KIAA. Kangaroo Industry, Primary Industry, Shooters Party, NPWS, NPWS rangers and shooters, OEH, Bio security legislations and Invasive animal legislation involving animal cruelty Marine life cruelty, Australians like their animals and marine life. These people have use excuses to protect farmers, but in reality, they are killing for a meat industry, skin sports industry. What is this NSW Environment, climate change & water ?, what is this National Parks? your 'Handbook for Kangaroo Harvesters'. (YourHandbook for Kangaroo Harvesters - · PDF file)4 Handbook for Kangaroo Harvesters Introduction DECCW has prepared this handbook to help kangaroo harvesters meet the NSW Government’s requirements Primary Industry cannot label all these animals as invasive species then use that as an excuse to market their dead meat for selling commercially. How dare your government mass murder our Native kangaroo species to grind into PET FOODS, fox baits, wild dog baits, export human consumption to 70 countries. This is downright wrong, its virtually stealing and robbing our wildlife native animals that belong to this COUNTRY ' AUSTRALIA'. These animals do not belong to politicians, or shooters, or pet food suppliers! Absolutely NOT! and this True Native Kangaroo Wildlife is not for export for 70 countries on your target list including Russia, Korea, China, USA, human consumption, skins for sporting accessories, you virtually stole WILDLIFE, you downgraded these special animals so you can treat them as invasive! then KILL! PROFIT. March 3rd 2018 update: Primary Industry and OEH under Liberal Party continues their slaughter on Kangaroos in NSW using excuses of drought. Meanwhile they are intentionally increasing the kangaroo industry targets.  May 2018 update: ACT Labour Party and Greens Party continue their slaughter on ACT Kangaroos increasing another 1000 from last year. Ring your local Labour MP's and Greens MP's complain how tragically ruthless they are exploiting your Tax payer funds. Hired Shooters can get paid huge sums of TAX PAYER FUNDS per DEAD KANGAROO! Its about MONEY!! and interconnected with people that approve the violence!  Dec 2018 update: I spoke to Kangaroos at Risk, I was alerted that things have become worst for the Native Kangaroos. Main Issue 1c. Have politicians tried to listen to comments made by Australians & an international community about animal cruelty. Politicians were voted in to represent all, not just Primary Industry, Bio-security and Invasive Animals Australia, using unending excuses to slaughter our animals. The Greens Party and National Parks NPWS, have also used unending excuses for vegetation damage and labelled all these animals including Brumbies (wild horses) FERAL! taking advantage of government grants/funding to eradicate Australian animals. This is so corrupt it needs an internal review. It was these same groups that oppose hunting when previous NSW Liberal Premier Barry O'Ferral reversed the conservation policies to allow hunting inside National Parks and Conservation Parks, Weirdly these groups have since joined INVASIVE ANIMALS AUSTRALIA to eradicate most of the animals by NPWS rangers and shooters. ALL EXTREMELY HYPOCRITICAL! Game hunting inside National Parks should be banned. As well as pouring poisonous chemicals into rivers!. Do you understand how bad the government has behaved by allowing mining in the nearby reefs! Knowing the Great Barrier corals are dying and climate change action is needed. The Governments supporting this mine reflects how desperate politicians are to cash in and prepared to destroy Australia's most famous REEF! Affecting tourism and marine life! As much as you use tax payer funds to do your government jobs, there are many more ways to resolve this form of culling other then downright murdering our animals, birdlife and murdering our marine life. 1. Rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD), also known as rabbit calicivirus disease (RCD) or viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD), is a highly infectious and often fatal disease that affects wild and domestic rabbits of the species Oryctolagus cuniculus. The infectious agent responsible for the disease is rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV), or rabbit calicivirus (RCV), genus Lagovirus of the family Caliciviridae. Do you accept there will be lawsuits should pet rabbits die from politicians delegating to bio-security for allowing these viral disease to be spread by mosquitoes, fleas, flies? Our cities do not need these viruses RHDVK5, contain it in your farms! Provide an adequate vaccine by vets for the defence of these human spread viruses now. 2. Snowy Mountain Brumbies, How many horses are slaughtered! Why is the entire control especially Primary Industry NSW run by the Shooters Party? Their scientists are all game hunters! There is no fair votes inside these organizations! Hundreds of wild horses slaughtered in abattoirs! Shame again on Invasive Animals Australia, for passing policies that allow them to label wild brumbies as pests!. Have you politicians wondered it could be more financially viable to build dams or ponds for these Brumbies to drink water from, There are endless reserves to relocate these Brumbies. Public land belongs to all taxpayers! Public land is not owned by politicians! Update: March 2018, Hundreds of Brumbies in Victoria are in danger of being culled soon. Please ring your Labour Party MP's to stop this cruelty and please re home ASAP! Update: May 21st 2018, Snowy Mountain Brumbies will be saved by NSW Liberal Government. You can read updates on latest news. Update: Dec 20th 2018, Hunter Valley Brumbies have been targeted by shooters via aerial culling, the NSW govt have been pressured by their so called top scientists to cull them. Wild Horse numbers also suffered losses in Clinton Island, dead rotting carcases left lying from aerial culling. Be watchful for every brumby in the wild throughout every state,  they are not safe no matter what these creepy corrupt politicians say. They are locked in with primary industry and shooters. Australia's shame! I saw hunters/shooters advertising their game hunting on their utes driving around the streets of Sydney in the NSW premiers electorate. I went to her electorate's council to complain. They said they are not responsible for organisations advertising wildlife hunting on their cars. So what the HELL is going on?,  Brumbies dead, hunting inside our National Parks! Elections are in March.....please be very careful with your votes, I don't trust the politicians when they team up with animal shooters/hunters. Update: Jan 10th 2019, mass brumby cull found near Santa Teresa, Northern Territory, further culling plan to continue using excuses of starvation and heat stress. Basically, the Northern Territory is an area that is subjected to extreme heat, why have these animals survived previously then ?. This rotten excuse to continue aerial culling is a LIE. (They can truck livestock but they refuse to help wildlife horse relocations). Australian regional landholders with adequate fencing can seriously help adopt Brumbies Australia wide. Information is provided here how to adopt your Brumbies The Australian Brumby Alliance has registered members country wide that are volunteer groups rehoming these beautiful animals. Save a brumby, adopt a brumby, sponsor a brumby 3. How many Koalas are still being culled, (they culled over 900 Koalas in Victoria under Liberals, now under Labour, they stated they would continue to cull). Have they planted more eucalyptus trees to feed the Koala population? Reference to Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Currently approved in NSW, Why are you politicians from NSW Liberal party allowing the Koala Habitat clearance to make way for the NSW RMS project when there were alternate routes?. Currently approved in NSW, why are you Liberal politicians allowing the logging in Port Macquarie?. You are harming most Koalas inside these habitats. Currently there is an emergency volunteer Koala hospital and a volunteer Koala Ambulance in Port Macquarie from the destruction and harm. 4.  Is Eco tourism important to politicians?,  Australian Primary Industry is now making Australia FAMOUS for SLAUGHTERING AUSTRALIAN ANIMALS, MARINE LIFE, BIRDLIFE.  Read the petition comments from a world wide audience please. Your Environmental policies which labelled most animals feral, invasive, pests is wiping out this sector. Governments policies are not only harmful, many Territory and State government policies in this category are damaging to the extremes. Governments are ever changing and each will alter policies and whilst in government, why not make a difference to a healthy environment! History will always be around to remind. What is the responsibility/role of an 'Environment Minister' and 'Tourism Minister'?  Some Australian MP's are given two, three portfolios with conflicting cases which has become counter productive in its planning. (Example: Environment & Energy, Tourism and Trade, Environment, Planning, gaming). Q. What is eco tourism? A. Tourism directed towards exotic natural environments, intended to support conservation efforts and observe wildlife. Encouraging these activities does provide endless jobs for the communities. (Wildlife Science graduates coordinating research programs, wildlife educational activities for visitors and school children, the list is endless). 5. Should Australia be well known for slaughtering animals, birdlife and marine life? Animals/marine life/birdlife are part and parcel to our environment. 6. Australia has endless raging bushfires yearly during the summers, these native animals they label PESTS to be slaughtered inside our National parks using excuses for vegetation damage is false! The raging bushfires are from overgrown vegetation and these animals help trim the overgrown vegetation. Its time you politicians see the advantages of having animals inside National Parks and conservation Parks. Stop labelling animals PESTS so your partner political parties have access to shoot them dead! or poison them DEAD! 7. The Great Barrier Reef is Australia's most important natural asset and you all turned a blind eye to the problems facing this asset. Instead of saving it, you allow mining in this nearby reef. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS A SADISTIC INHUMANE CRUEL ACT OF IGNORANCE! THE GREEDY POLITICIANS QLD LABOUR PARTY NEED TO RISE ABOVE YOUR ILL MISTAKES AND REVERSE THE DAMAGE IMMEDIATELY and DO NOT ALLOW MINING NEARBY THE GREAT BARRIER REEF!  ITS AN UGLY HOLE, UGLY EYESORE OF A PROJECT THAT SHOULD NEVER EVEN HAVE BEEN GIVEN APPROVAL! THIS IS SO CORRUPT. Update: May 2018. The Liberal Federal Government will be allocating 500 Million Dollars to try save the Great Barrier Reef from polluted waterways pouring into this reef, including various activities. (Why not ban the mines?) There are more job prospects in tourism then digging in mines. More GST revenue collections from tourism!!! Update: Dec 2018: Adani protests across the country by school children, families, everywhere. CSIRO is finally disputing the use of water from one of its rivers and its back to the drawing board for Adani. 8. STOP POURING POISONOUS CHEMICALS INTO THE RIVERS! BARNABY JOYCE FROM THE NATIONALS PARTY WANTS TO MASS MURDER CARPS  Why don't you make way FOR FRIENDLIER ENVIRONMENTAL GOVERNANCE THAT DOES CARE for Australia's natural assets, animal, marine life & birdlife, natural land/marine environments without polluting it further with poison chemicals. Update: Dec 2018 In Western Sydney, dead perch fishes by the hundreds were found dead and floating, no known reasons for their death. These marine life fish were poisoned. Update: 10th Jan 2019 Environmental Disaster occurred in the Menindee Darling River/Lakes whereby millions of 100 year old cods, native fish, fish found floating and dead.  Update: 14th Jan 2019 Further additional millions of fish deaths Update: 27th Jan 2019 Further additional millions of fish deaths Update: 31st Jan 2019 In regards to the millions of fish death in the Murry-Darling rivers & lakes, the SA royal commission outcome states a maladministration, negligence by the MDBA authority creating an environmental and ecological disaster. 9. STOP THE KANGAROO CULL AUSTRALIA WIDE and Canberra by SHOOTERS and territory government councils,  STOP IMMEDIATELY, you people that shoot innocent animals are so disgustingly barbaric its out of control in NSW, Canberra, OLD, WA, VIC. STOP IMMEDIATELY! The reasons for this slaughter in not justified! its a dated program that should be immediately terminated. These KANGAROOS are not on private pastures, its public land and they are living innocently in their own habitats. These animals belong to Australia, they belong to our natural environment, Primary Industry and Invasive animals Australia do not own our animals! Therefore have no right to do as they please towards our animals! Update: Dec 2018, I spoke to Kangaroos at Risk and was alerted that things have become worst for our native roos. Please keep up the fight for these animals because they have NO VOICE.  10. Why is Tasmania culling native Wombats, issuing culling licences to kill these animals! Has this COUNTRY GONE ABSOLUTELY MAD? STOP LISTEN to the PEOPLE! 11. Looking for more animals to kill, NPWS,  Invasive Animals Australia, Invasive Animals NSW, next review is the DEER on their pest list pushed by the GREENS!, sweet innocent harmless DEERS Yes BAMBI, they now want to murder our DEERS! Shooters and farmers don't listen to INVASIVE ANIMALS AUSTRALIA! Shooters and farmers, don't listen to the GREENS PARTY! (Under Greens party, over 50,000 Deers are eradicated, culled by hunters in Victoria), using excuses of trampling, the road dirt trampling's are from your four wheel drives digging into the mud, yet blaming the innocent Deers. Update: Primary Industry NSW has decided to not label Deers Invasive leaving it to be hunted for game shooters in NSW, GREENS PARTY ARE ANGRY because they want 'Deer' to be labelled PEST! what is right with you people? sick?, Humans have become the pest in society wanting to label every animal a pest, shameful humans, shameful politicians. Update: Dec 2018, I saw hunters/shooters advertising hunting deer's on their utes and driving around Sydney. 12. Mass shootings by the Shooters Party in conjunction with Victorian Labour Party, how dare you wipe out waterbirds and wild ducks in your full weekend of shooting in the wetlands!. You destroyed beautiful natural wildlife to the extremes leaving thousands of birds mass buried. UGLY sight!       Farms need to build safer greenhouses for their crops and seedlings. In Bio-diversity every animal co-exist. Foxes attack their cattle if the rabbit population is non existent. Farmers can protect their private farms! Why bring viruses into the city park reserves, we don't breed herds in the city to feed the population. Brumbies are part of the Snowy Mountains environment, they have been living there well over 180 years. Its turning into a Wild Horse Meat Industry by Primary Industry. Primary Industry should support farmers by subsidizing adequate fencing for predators instead of pouring a constant amount of their tax paid funds into repetitive pesticides and poisons. What are you doing for farmers?     Koalas were brought into Great Ocean Road to become a tourist hotspot, then its all very hypocritical to cull them using excuses of starvation. Why have the rangers and environmental conservationists not replant eucalyptus trees for these Koalas! Why have you allowed the RMS to clear massive native vegetation to make way for the Pacific Hwy Road Extension when there were alternate routes available that doesn't require logging of eucalyptus tree habitats! Did you sell the timber from all this logging ? The public needs all the details! its public environment!.  25th June 2017, In Australia Wide ABC with Yasmin, Phillipa McDonald reported the NSW government is logging in Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour. You should not be harming the Koalas in Port Macquarie. You are logging right in the Koala Territory. STOP THIS HABITAT DESTRUCTION NOW!. This is contradictory to your protection policy for Koalas. Due to Koalas endangered status, you allow the habitat destruction and place new plans to allocate millions of dollars funding to map new Koala habitats for conservation therefore why destroy in the first place.    Government run agencies, NPWS, Invasive Animals Australia call themselves environmentalists, scientists, their excuses about saving bio diversity: save mosses, native plants, cattle pasture competing with tiny rabbits eating few pieces of grass!  What are you doing to the environment! Your actions are hypocritical! These agencies should retreat and make way for new agencies/councils that co-ordinate Australia wide re-homing of animals that farmers trap, remove humanely, transfer alive to local zoos, wildlife carers, wildlife organisations.    National parks NPWS, can't even tidy up the overgrown shrubs inside their reserves, its the tiny rabbits, deers and native animals that are helping them lawn their overgrown national park reserve shrub, weeds!. Animals help reduce bushfires from trimming vegetation.     Its a national disgrace! 'Dead bunny rabbits', 'Dead Waterbirds & dead Wild Ducks',  'murdered Kangaroos', 'murdered Brumbies', 'murdered Koalas', 'murdered Wombats', 'murdered Ponies', 'murdered Donkeys', Deer slaughters and other affected wildlife/birdlife/marine life poisoning and blowflies spreading RHDVK5, spreading Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 into lakes and rivers. several millions of dead fish floating in the rivers and lakes. Mining pollution from future mining operations near the Great Barrier Reef!. Update: Dec 20th 2018, hundreds of birds including parrots, galahs have fallen off trees in South Australia, cause not known, they appear to have suffered poisoning, reports by ABC news. The birds guts were exposed, this appears to be internal haemorrhage. STOP clearing Habitats destroying all the trees, Koalas are hanging on roads and fences, birds have no more flight paths to land they are flying on road highways. Wallaby's hopping around road underground tunnels and suburbia because their natural environments were stolen by the greedy humans.  # The country is going backwards in 2017  # STOP KILLING OUR WILDLIFE  in 2018  # The World is watching and they are alarmed!  # The spotlight is shining on those that commit violence on innocent defenseless animals   # ENOUGH IS ENOUGH # Politicians are more interested in getting back into POWER to USE and ABUSE. # VOTE CAREFULLY in your NSW March elections in 2019 #  STOP THIS USE OF 1080. Many local councils have been exposing 1080 baits in our local parks and National Parks. This poison is banned in most countries except New Zealand and Australia.  1080 poisonous pesticide is manufactured in NZ.

My daughter was born deaf– Ensure children like Charlie don’t get bullied at school.

The diagnosis of Charlie’s hearing loss came as a shock! Even before leaving the hospital, I was told that my baby needed further hearing checks because she failed the State Wide Infant Screening Hearing (SWISH). Charlie was diagnosed at birth with moderate-severe hearing loss in her right ear and severe-profound hearing loss in her left ear. This diagnosis left our family rattled and unsure of what the future held for Charlie. I was devastated, I wasn’t sure what to do until I found The Shepherd Centre. A world-leading service, they told me that Charlie would get therapy through their Early Intervention program and that she could have the same speaking and listening abilities as any other child. Their expertise gave me confidence that I had found the right support for my child. When she turned four, I was petrified of the idea of her starting big school, will she be ok on her own? Am I able to choose the right school? Will she be confident and speak up if anything goes wrong? Will she be bullied? Will her classmates see beyond her cochlear implants? Many questions and uncertainties arose but the team at The Shepherd Centre told me that their Off to School program was designed to address these concerns. What a relief! The Off to School program gave her a head start and basic understanding of a classroom setting (sitting, listening, turn-taking), phonics, sounds and rhyming, valuable tools considering children with hearing loss find the noisy school setting a challenge. For a deaf child, listening can be exhausting, which affects their ability to learn. The program gave Charlie confidence and age-appropriate tools that she otherwise wouldn’t have received. I picked up great tips about exactly what was needed for Charlie before she started school. Hearing other parents speak about their experiences and meeting older graduates empowered me to know what to expect and what to address with the school and teachers prior to starting. With the cut of funding from the Department of Education, children with hearing loss will miss out on lifelong skills! When I was told about the funding cuts, I was absolutely heartbroken for all the upcoming families that would potentially miss out. This would put extra stress on the school system, with teachers and parents having to compensate the additional needs of children with hearing loss. The programs empower the child to advocate for their hearing needs, skills that will carry them throughout their education and beyond. All children deserve to have the best start and chance in their education and we and the government should be doing anything possible to give them that.  Off to School allowed Charlie to be superstar! She is getting awards, great feedback from her teacher and making new friends by the day! She is speaking up and advocating for herself, taking charge of her equipment - troubleshooting her sound processors, changing batteries and asking the teacher to wear a microphone. This a lot on a 5 year old child but she was well prepared for all of it and it has long-term payoff for her. Charlie is picking up things quickly and I couldn’t be more proud! I thank The Shepherd Centre for all of this. Don’t all kids with hearing loss deserve the skills to thrive at school? These programs help our kids inside the classroom and out on the playground. Recently The Shepherd Centre has been providing Off to School programs from its own reserves and with some support from donors and the local community. This is not sustainable on the long run and the Government should play a role in funding that vital program so all children like Charlie can get the best start to school. I'm pleading with you – Please help more children with hearing loss prepare for a smooth transition to school by sharing my petition. We need all the help we can get!

Save Community Sport - Save Bunnerong Gymnastics!

Randwick City Council is planning to demolish the current gymnastics building at Heffron Park and replace it with a facility that will not meet the community’s current or future gymnastics needs. The new facility will be inadequate because the gymnastics area will be effectively reduced by one-third, due to the space required for modern equipment and best practice safety requirements. Bunnerong Gymnastics, a not for profit community association, has been providing outstanding school, recreational and competitive gymnastics programs for boys and girls in the Randwick community and surrounds for the last 40 years (33 at Heffron Park). If Randwick City Council goes to tender with its current plan for the inadequate 1,300m2 facility, there will be a reduction in equipment in the new centre, meaning Bunnerong competitive gymnasts may have nowhere to train and the already growing waitlists for families will increase, with more children missing out. We the undersigned strongly urge Randwick City Council: Not to proceed with the tender process, and instead Work in partnership with Bunnerong Gymnastics and allow them to contribute funds they have raised to build a community-owned gymnastics facility; and together with Gymnastics NSW and other key stakeholders, deliver a 2,300m2 purpose-built regional gymnastics facility (as per the 2009 Heffron Park Plan of Management) at no extra cost to Randwick City Council. This will ensure the best outcome for our community.

Justice for Tank! Have his attacker deemed as a dangerous animal.

We recently had our beloved English Staffy “Tank” brutally mauled by an aggressive and obviously uncontrollable American Staffy (twice Tanks size) on Monday evening the 11/03/19.  The event happened when Carl (owner) was walking Tank on a lead on the footpath in Rutherford. He passed a house not far from his home where this dog was (apparently) tied up. The dog had seen tank and attacked tank on his blind side. Neither Carl or Tank saw the dog attacking.  Upon impact the dog ripped into tanks throat,  tore into his front paws and broke his hind leg so visicously the vets said “there was an 80% chance that we have to amputate”.  Once Carl was able to free Tank, he was limp in his arms. Carl thought he had lost him. He went straight to the vet. As any dog owners would do, once Tank was stable Carl and myself tried to contact the ranger after hours to alert of a dangerous dog and went to our local police station to file a report. We could not get through to the ranger until the next morning and the police took the event down but said that was all they could do. All we kept thinking was ‘what if our kids were with us on our walk like normal?’ And ‘what if another person walks past with their dog in the mean time?’ After recent attacks across the state including two deaths of children, the state government increased the infringements and introduced a new classification being "menacing" which means an authorised officer (ranger) can declare a dog menacing if It acts aggressive. all this was brought in to make the community safer and give more power to rangers to act rather than wait for the attack then act.  What has happened in our case is a dog has been attacked. the attacking dog is known to council, council has issued an infringement and let a dangerous dog back into the community. if that dog attacks again, either on a human or other animal, the victim will have a very strong case against council because it failed in its duty of care to the community. We need to address two topics separately. 1st being Greg's (Maitland City Council Ranger) inaction is addressing the behaviour of the dog, but the more important one is council is failing the community to protect them from dangerous dogs. Every other hunter council and councils across NSW address the criminal aspect (infringement for attack) and also adder the dogs behaviour, by way of control orders. 3 options are nuisance order (minor e.g. rushing at a person or animal) Menacing (causing injury to a person or animal) and dangerous ( causing serious injury or death of a person or animal). Why hasn't this happened in our case?? Walking was Tanks favourite thing.  Tank had his leg broken in 6 places. Multiple lasceration requiring glue and stitches to his throat and legs. The bone was broken so bad he was borderline amputatee. He now will live in a crate for 12 weeks with a metal splint attached. Not to mention, Tank is acting like a completely different dog from all the truma. He wouldn’t even let Carl touch him. It’s heartbreaking as his owner to see his beautiful personality be weakened by this. The vet bill is $4200 so far for Tank. The owner of the attacking dog has stated he is on Centrelink and can not afford to pay for the damages his dog inflicted. Please sign our petition so we can take this further and get some justice for Tank. #HelpSaveTank!

NSW Labor - commit to de-amalgamate Bayside!

On Friday 9 September 2016 the City of Botany Bay and Rockdale Council were merged. This was a merger that was made by a state government hostile to our area without the consent of our community. NSW Labor has committed to a policy to de-amalgamate Councils if a plebiscite is held and the majority of residents support a de-amalgamation. Frankly, this is not good enough.  The fact is that Botany Bay has already had a plebiscite and the result was clear and overwhelming - 98 per cent of Botany Bay residents were opposed to a merger with Rockdale. As such we are calling on the NSW Labor Opposition to commit to a policy to de-amalgamate Bayside and re-institute an independent City of Botany Bay if they win the next election on 23 March 2019. Anyone who knows Botany Bay would understand why it is unsurprising that our community is opposed to this merger. Our community is proud, diverse, prosperous and very different to Rockdale. It made no sense to merge two Councils with nothing in common, divided by the Airport and a body of water.   The City of Botany Bay was not perfect, but it was a local, community-minded Council, which had carefully put away funds for a rainy day. The finalised accounts recently released by Bayside Council have confirmed what locals already knew - our Council had plenty of cash and the ability to stand on its own two feet. In fact - regardless of Bayside's spin - Botany Bay had $115 million in cash and savings available. Here is why we think you should support our petition: Locals in Botany Bay and Rockdale never wanted this - 98 per cent of Botany Bay residents voted against the proposed merger. Unfortunately Rockdale Council didn't give their residents the right to vote, so we have no way of knowing their views on this matter. However, it is worth noting that a number of supporters of our page actually come for the Rockdale side. The former City of Botany Bay and Rockdale Council do not even share a boundary - the Airport and Cooks River are in the way. Its difficult to travel between the areas. The congestion in the airport tunnel means its difficult to drive and there's only one bus - the 303 - that directly connects the two areas. Botany Bay residents had lower rates than Rockdale residents and, once the rate cap is finished in 2020, our rates will increase by more than twenty per cent! That hasn't stopped Bayside raising rates on local institutions like the Graphic Arts Club. Since the merger our area has been neglected, facilities, parks, gardens and community spaces have gone untended and service levels have decreased. The new Bayside Council is run out of the Rockdale area. Rockdale’s former General Manager is in charge, the Mayor is from Rockdale and of the Councillors who are supposed to represent those wards located in Botany Bay - three out of six come from Rockdale! The Council has even stopped holding meetings in Botany Bay - all are now held at Rockdale Town Hall. Bayside has shut down the Mascot Administration Centre and plans to knock down the slides at Botany Pool. While they claim they have our community's best interests at heart the Mascot Admin Centre has been left unoccupied and allowed to grow derelict. Botany Bay and Rockdale have very different cultures, history and a different mix of incomes. The position of the Cooks River and Canal and later the Airport has meant our two communities have developed separately and should remain separate. After less than two years Bayside has already developed a reputation for mismanagement and poor governance. Our Council also has an unfortunate tendency to lie to its constituents. The Mayor and some Rockdale based Councillors are presently running  a campaign to denigrate our former Council and prevent a de-amalgamation. Rather than trying to pursue the funds stolen by Goodman et al, they are using these crimes against our community to prosecute their political agenda. The Mayor's claims have been used by the Liberal Government to defend the amalgamation. Bayside approved Westfield Eastgardens request to charge their customers for parking. This was after years of Botany Bay saying "no" and in spite of the original conditions of consent requiring that Westfield's never charge for parking. The City of Botany Bay area was an economic powerhouse - even though we had half the people of Rockdale our local economy was more than twice the size.

Save Chatswood Intensive English Centre

ProblemChatswood Intensive English Centre (CIEC) first opened in 1979, with the advent of multiculturalism as official federal and NSW government policy. Since then, teachers have prepared wave after wave of newly arrived migrants, refugees and, since 2007, international students, for successful participation in their local high schools. However, as our school community prepares to celebrate our 40th anniversary next year, we are fighting for our very survival.Schools Infrastructure NSW (part of the NSW Department of Education) has devised plans for a "Chatswood Education Precinct" to accommodate a mini demographic boom in our local community. It is to include a new 10-12 campus (where Chatswood Public School currently is), and a K-9 campus (where CHS and CIEC currently co-exist). CIEC is not included in the precinct, a fact that we only found out in September. We were not consulted, and we've not been told where we are moving to, or if we will continue to exist at all.We are are concerned that our exclusion coincides with the Premier's plan to slash migration numbers into NSW by 50%.SolutionWe want Premier Gladys Berejiklian, who happens to be our local member, to step in to ensure that Chatswood IEC is included as part of the Chatswood Education Precinct. Failing that, we want assurances that if we are relocated, that we will be within walking distance of both Chatswood train station and Chatswood High School, with whom we have strong educational connections. There is no other public transport hub in Northern Sydney that is remotely comparable to Chatswood. Our students already travel long distances (from as far as the Central Coast and right up and down the Northern Beaches). At the end of this term, our current graduating students will be exiting to 31 different high schools within our massive drawing area.Personal storyWe are a group of teachers at Chatswood Intensive English Centre. Many of us have taught here for decades, dedicating a large proportion of our working lives to ensuring that newly arrived teenage migrants, refugees and international students receive the caring, supportive, and pedagogically sound environment from which they can blossom, attend mainstream high schools, and go on to be active and informed residents and citizens of their new country.

A call to action for responsible development in Sydney

Sydney suburbs are being irreversibly damaged by an unprecedented level of poor quality, high density development. Prominent examples like the Opal Towers and Westconnex show that local residents and those who buy into  new developments are not protected from the adverse impacts of poor development practices and profiteering. At the same they suffer from the continuing degradation of amenity as infrastructure, education and health services fail to keep pace. All regions within 800m from a railway station are now slated for the next wave of very high density development with no relief in sight. Councils have minimal influence as the State Government has removed Councillors, the local elected representatives, from the planning process. Residents are overwhelmed and powerless to protect themselves against the barrage of negative consequences for their homes and lifestyles. With the upcoming state election we have a unique opportunity to be heard and to help bring about the conditions necessary to ensure responsible development in Sydney suburbs. You can help us bring about the necessary changes to ensure responsible development by signing the petition below. Petition for responsible developmentWe respectfully demand changes to government planning processes and controls to ensure that local residents are an integral part of planning and development processes. Specifically we petition the NSW State Government to: Return planning and development approval powers to locally elected representatives at the local councils. Provide reliable, cost-free, out-of-court mechanisms to compensate owners of new builds for defects associated with poor quality construction and owners of neighbouring buildings for damage and loss of value to their assets imposed by new developments. Ensure that development controls match and enforce the local character statements as articulated in planning regulations. Ensure that local residents are consulted regarding the desired character of their neighbourhoods and that the character statements as articulated in planning regulations are in line with the expectations of the majority of the local residents. Mandate sufficient contributions for upgrades to local and state infrastructure (schools, public transport, hospitals and roads) with each new development, commensurate with its scale. Mandate on-site open space for relaxation and children’s play areas to be included in every new multi-dwelling development. Ensure that those tasked with quality control and certification of new developments are completely independent of the developers and incentivised to focus on quality outcomes. Put a moratorium on all new developments until the systems are revised and these provisions are put in place.

Stop NSW Government WASTING $2B Rebuilding SFS & Olympic Stadiums

Dear petitioners, The fight to stop the Liberals’ reckless spending of $2.2 billion to knockdown down and rebuild perfectly good stadiums isn’t over. Anything that happens from now just stops the clock. It doesn’t stop the demolition. So we really need your help. Currently, the Labor-led Waverley Council and community groups are fighting the demolition in the Land and Environment Court to halt this madness. The court has already heard that a “suppressed” report revealed traces of carcinogenic substances in soil beneath Allianz Stadium. This, under the Berejiklian Government’s watch. The only way to put an end to this reckless waste of taxpayer money is to vote for a Daley Labor Government on March 23. Only Labor can put an end to this Sydney madness. Vote 1 Labor. Michael Daley
