Mamie Evelyn Locke is an accomplished American politician and educator, affiliated with the Democratic Party. She has been serving as a member of the Virginia Senate representing the 2nd district since 2004, covering parts of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, and York County. Locke's political career began on the Hampton, Virginia city council, where she served from 1996 to 2004, including a tenure as mayor from 2000 to 2004. In addition to her political endeavors, Locke is a dedicated educator, holding the position of Professor of Political Science and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at Hampton University.
