John Peter Spyros Sarbanes is an American lawyer and Democratic politician who has served as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 3rd congressional district since 2007. The district encompasses Annapolis, all of Howard County, and parts of Anne Arundel and Carroll counties. Sarbanes holds a Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University. His legal career includes serving as a law clerk for Judge J. Frederick Motz at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and working as an attorney for the Maryland State Department of Education. He has also been President at the Public Justice Center. Sarbanes has consistently served in the House of Representatives, with terms spanning from 2007 to the present.
