Jay Chaudhuri is an American attorney, professor, and politician serving as a Democratic member of the North Carolina Senate. He made history as North Carolina's first Indian-American state legislator when he was appointed in April 2016 to fill a vacancy left by Josh Stein's resignation. Chaudhuri was subsequently elected and re-elected to the Senate. In January 2019, he was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the Senate Minority Whip, making him the second-highest-ranking official in the Democratic caucus.
