The Government of Canada, often referred to as the Canadian Government, is a federal system of parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, which means the monarch—currently Queen Elizabeth II—is the head of state, while the Prime Minister serves as the head of government. Divided into three levels - federal, provincial, and municipal, Canada's government establishes laws and policies while providing various public services. At the federal level, the government is responsible for national and international matters, such as defense, trade, foreign policy, and the economy. The country is also governed by a bicameral parliament, composed of the Senate and the House of Commons, which pass key legislation. It prides itself on providing equal representation and upholding the principles of justice, freedom, respect for human rights, and diversity.
