Europäische Union

The Europäische Union, otherwise known as the European Union (EU), is a political and economic union of 27 member states that are primarily located in Europe. It was established with the Maastricht Treaty in 1993, and has since grown to become one of the world’s largest and most influential economic regions. The EU operates through a hybrid system of intergovernmental decision-making and supranational centralised institutions, with key areas of shared sovereignty including economic policy, climate change, and security and defence. Its main aims are to ensure peace, freedom, and legal security for its citizens, as well as to promote economic and social progress.
