CONSEJO GENERAL DEL PODER JUDICIAL

The Consejo General del Poder Judicial (CGPJ) is the governing body of the judiciary in Spain. Established by the Spanish Constitution of 1978, its main role is to oversee the autonomy of judges and magistrates in the country. It is responsible for the appointment, promotion, and disciplinary control of members of the judiciary, as well as aspects related to their professional careers. Comprising of about twenty members, the CGPJ ensures that the Spanish judiciary operates independently from the legislative and executive branches of government.
