The Congreso Nacional Argentino is the legislative branch of the government of Argentina. It consists of two chambers: the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The Congreso is set in a breathtaking Beaux-Arts building in Buenos Aires, which has become an iconic symbol of the city. The chambers are responsible for proposing and voting on legislation, and and also oversee the actions of the executive branch. Like in other bicameral systems, laws must be approved by both chambers before they can be signed into law. The makeup of the congress is determined through regular elections, and it plays a key role in the democratic governance of Argentina.
