Established in 2009, the Asamblea Nacional del Ecuador (National Assembly of Ecuador) is the supreme legislative body of the Republic of Ecuador. It consists of 137 elected officials who serve four-year terms and are responsible for making laws, overseeing the government and managing the country's public finances. The National Assembly also holds the power to ratify international treaties and agreements and to impeach the President and other government officials. The decisions taken by this legislative branch significantly influence Ecuador's socio-economic policies and political direction.
