Growing up, I never imagined that I would develop a passion for computer science. Attending The Altamont School, I initially had little interest in the field, thinking it was far removed from my other pursuits. However, access to quality education and technology at Altamont opened my eyes to the immense potential of computer science. I found myself captivated by coding, problem-solving, and the endless opportunities the digital world offers.

My journey into computer science transformed my perspective and future aspirations. I realized that the internet is not just a tool for entertainment but a gateway to knowledge, opportunities, and connections. It allows us to access vital information, stay updated with news, apply for jobs, and maintain contact with family and friends, no matter where they are.

This revelation fueled my desire to ensure that everyone, regardless of their geographical location, has equitable access to these opportunities. The digital divide is a significant barrier for many, especially in the rural South, where internet access is limited or nonexistent. Many communities lack the infrastructure needed for reliable broadband, which hinders their ability to participate fully in the digital age.

I believe everyone deserves the chance to explore their potential and pursue their interests, just as I did. This is why I am calling on broadband companies to extend their services into rural areas in the South. By doing so, we can bridge the digital divide and provide countless individuals with the tools they need to thrive in today’s world.

Access to the internet can transform lives, especially in today's digital age as we becomes more reliant on devices. By by offering educational resources, job opportunities, access to information, and the ability to stay connected with loved ones, the Internet acts as a powerful tool. It is a crucial step towards creating a more equitable society where everyone has the chance to succeed.
