Prevent data centers from entering our community
The Issue
Our city and citizens deserve the protection of their representatives, not to be sold out to the highest bidder.
The fact that our city politicians have voted subversively and covertly to sell the rights of our very land and soil, to parasitic corporate data centers that want to come into our community and destroy it, is deeply troubling.
Our city has been run by this good ol’ boy club for far too long, and it has resulted in stale growth, limited expansion, excessive red tape, and atrocious mismanagement as well as an utter disregard for the residents they claim to represent.
Data centers lie to worm their way into communities and it comes at a cost—one that can have catastrophic effects on local environments and on us, the residents. They consume vast amounts of water to cool their operations, draining precious resources we depend on daily. We are already too dry. They emit heat and we're already too hot.
Statistics show that areas housing data centers often experience increased levels of noise pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. A significant rise in electricity consumption leads to higher utility rates for residents, further burdening our costs of living. We can learn from communities that rushed into agreements with these corporations, only to face long-term environmental and economic consequences that overshadow any initial benefits they were promised.
We should demand transparency and accountability from our leaders. The residents' health and safety should be prioritized over corporate interests. We cannot allow our environment to be compromised for a quick economic gain at the expense of our longer-term quality of life.
Because it really seems like they’re trying to kill us.
