The Watchung Board of Education is made up of good, local volunteers that deserve our thanks. However, there have been challenges over the past year. There is a need for more teachers within a tight budget; there are infrastructure issues such as aging HVAC systems; plus a long list of referendum projects to be completed. These items are all handled by the BOE’s Operations/Finance Committee. 

Richard Buccarelli has four years of experience on the BOE’s operations committee (more than any other member). He delivered a perfect audit last year and chaired the committee when the referendum projects were developed. Yet, he was not invited to be on the committee this year. Experience, knowledge and differing points of view are items that make up an effective committee. Mr. Buccarelli offers all of these. 

The current committee is made up of new board members during a challenging time. As such, I ask that the board appoint Mr. Buccarelli to the Operations/Finance Committee immediately, to ensure the best for our community, district and children.  To leave him off this important committee is a disservice to Watchung.
