Make sure vapes have less appealing packaging to children in the UK

The Issue

Hello, my name is Mark.

Recently, in my secondary school, I have noticed a massive rise in people as young as 12 vaping. This is something that should simply not happen. This can affect a Young adult's life by harming brain development, effect the child's lungs, etc. Sadly there have been some cases were vaping has lead to death like in the sad case of Rosey Christoffersen, a young athlete who sadly died after her lungs collapsed, who's mother believes vaping were the cause. This could be my friends or your children, I know this will harm an industry but lives are at cost.
According to King's College London, "2,469 teenagers aged 11-18 and 12,026 adults aged 18 and over were randomly assigned to view a set of three vape products from one of three packaging conditions – fully branded packs (acting as the control), standardised white packaging with brand name, and standardised green packaging with brand name. They were then asked which of the products would be of most interest to try. Researchers found that those in the teenage group were more likely to report that their peers would have no interest in vapes when marketed in standardized packaging. This was in contrast to the adult group, whose interest in using vapes was not reduced by the standardisation of packaging." This study shows that if packaging seems less appealing to teenagers, children, etc they are much likely to not get into vaping. I am calling for the government to introduce new laws similar to the "The Standardised Packaging of Tobacco Products Regulations 2015" where vape products must a) Make vape packaging less appealing to children by putting them in either plain packaging or in colours that won't appeal to children, eg. darker green colours instead of bright blue, red, pink. Going back to study, it said "Researchers found that those in the teenage group were more likely to report that their peers would have no interest in vapes when marketed in standardized packaging"   b) Add fines and prosecutions to retailers who refuse to obey this law and c) Make sure not to undermine the appeal of vapes to adult who smoke who are trying to quit, this is because many studies show that vaping is far less dangerous than smoking and can help stop smoking.

Thank you for reading this, I know that I have probably left some things out from the study and will probably update this later on. I know Change.org has a donation option, I do not know if they option is on or off but if it is on please may I ask that you do NOT donate.
