The Issue

I am a US resident who has seen firsthand the consequences of low wages among our police forces. When I needed help the most, the police were influenced by those who could afford to pay them more - a battle I couldn't win. Furthermore, I was disheartened to witness the excessive use of force, an issue too frequently present in our society.

We believe that by raising the average police salary from $65,000 starting pay to $95,000 starting pay we can invite more service-oriented officers who aren't just seeking power, but a rewarding career (source: Bureau of Labor Statistics). Another upside to this would be eliminating the incentive for police officers to engage in criminal activities, as matching their salary would be more demanding for those aiming to undermine the integrity of law enforcement.

The increased salaries should serve to attract competent and ethical candidates to the police force, thereby enhancing the overall quality of service, reducing incidents of excessive force, and minimizing the chances of corruption. This would not only ensure the safety of Nashville residents but also reestablish the trust of the community in our law enforcement.

It's time we invest in those who are tasked with maintaining peace and safety in our community. It's for the betterment of everyone in Nashville and far beyond. Sign this petition and support the raise in police salaries. Let's strive for a safer and just Nashville outpost.
