The Issue

A couple of "Admin matters" first.

1) To make your signature count, if this is the first you signed on Change.org - please check your emaiil after signing and click on the confirmation link.  It takes a second but your signature is not counted unless you verify it and your email address.
Check Junk or Span if you do not see it.

2) Do not donate to this page.  This is a local, grassroots petition.  Please share with your family and friends on Bute and those who have relatives on Bute via Whatsapp and other means.  Donations made on this petition page go to Change.org not the local cause. But we don't need it shared far and wide, as you can contact your Bute friends and family and those with relatives on Bute directly.  The campaign costs are paid from my private funds.   Now over to the petition and the cause -

We, the undersigned, call upon Bute councillors and MSP along with the Argyll and Bute Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) to work together and champion the cause of Thomson Court, the sole care home on the Isle of Bute which secured partial funding in Oct 2024 for renovation. https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/news/2024/oct/additional-funding-secured-expand-thomson-court-care-home

Tenders came in above budget, jeopardizing the project and it was put n hold by the council. We can not allow this project to lose momentum or be postponed.

Bute’s elderly deserve connection to their home and families. Being moved away from spouses and families for residential care - the elderly and their families are suffering isolation and detriment to their physical and emotional wellbeing.

Additionally, Bute would benefit from this with additional jobs and investment of the care home fees into a local facility. These fees are currently moved out of Bute to large privately held care homes in Inverclyde.  With local places, that funding invested in the Bute community and economy, year after year will have a positive economic impact for Bute!  This means more care job and more money spent in the local economy.

We thank all local councillors for their support and request that Argyll and Bute HSCP revive the project and arrange the necessary funding to make this happen ON BUTE.
