I lost my son, Rome, to stillbirth in 2023. The experience was dreadful not just due to the loss of my precious child, but because of the lack of appropriate and compassionate care I received at the hospital. It wasn't just the insufficient comfort measures; I felt alienated and isolated during one of the most painful moments of my life. This trauma has had a profound effect on my mental health.

I am not the only one who has suffered in this way, and so I am creating this petition to enact change for future families. I believe we can turn our grief into a force for change. This petition is calling for all hospitals to be more properly equipped to handle stillbirths during labour.

We are asking for more than increased medical care - although that is crucial. We are asking for a more understanding, empathic environment. We need a separate entrance to the birthing ward, to spare the parents from the joy of others while they are suffering. A TV and scented diffusers to help provide a distraction and make the environment less clinical; and most importantly, someone with experience in this area, someone who can guide you through this challenging time and make it as comfortable as possible.

We believe in change and improvements in stillbirth care. Let's create an environment wherein even in the face of pain, there is comfort, empathy, and understanding.
