Dear Raising Cane’s:

We, the undersigned, respectfully demand that you do not put a Raising Cane’s in Gaslight Square in Brea, California. It’s next to a Title 1 Elementary School, Laurel Elementary Magnet School of Innovation & Career Exploration, which would increase the danger to the students, pedestrians, and people passing by in the community. Gaslight Square is not the right location for a Raising Cane’s or any type of fast food drive-thru. It’s not what’s best for Raising Cane’s, Laurel, or Brea.  

In 1988, the City of Brea and the Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) collaborated on a Conditional Use Permit to restrict Gaslight Square to professional businesses only. Even though the Brea City Council recently changed it to allow a Raising Cane’s location, it is still a horribly unsafe location for various reasons. Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. 

The BOUSD Board of Education and the Laurel Parent Teacher Association are against putting a Raising Cane’s next to Laurel. They can all clearly see that this proposal is a bad idea, and so do we.

To be clear: we have nothing against the Raising Cane’s company. We're standing up for student safety, responsible development, and our community.

Raising Cane’s has a reputation of being a business with integrity and good community relationships. Please uphold it by doing the right thing by changing your plans and not building a Raising Cane's next to Laurel Elementary. There are other locations in Brea that would be a much better fit, and if possible, we would be happy to help you with that. Please help us keep our community and our streets safe.
