Allow post security smoking sections in airports

Allow post security smoking sections in airports
The Issue
As a frequent traveler who finds themselves navigating multiple connecting flights, I've experienced firsthand the challenges confronting smokers during layovers. The lack of post-security smoking sections in airports means smokers must exit and reenter through the security protocol to light a cigarette, often resulting in long waits and undue stress. Regrettably, this requirement poses significant time constraints on passengers, increasing the likelihood of missing connecting flights due to the prolonged queues at TSA checkpoints.
Airports are hubs for travelers from all walks of life, and it's essential to cater to diverse needs, including those who smoke. By establishing designated smoking areas post-security, airports can both enhance passenger comfort and improve the efficiency of airport operations. Such areas are not unprecedented and can already be found in several international airports, which have demonstrated how this approach successfully reduces congestion and alleviates passenger stress.
Data from airports with post-security smoking lounges shows a decrease in time passengers spend in security lines, translating directly to fewer missed flights. Such an initiative can further be achieved without sacrificing the health and comfort of non-smokers. Implementing advanced ventilation systems and soundproof enclosures, like those used in existing airport lounges, can ensure these smoking sections do not impact the air quality within terminals.
Furthermore, designated post-security smoking areas within airports could lead to increased concession sales as smokers, no longer rushing in and out of security, may spend more time and money at airport shops and restaurants. This potential economic benefit coupled with improved traveler experience makes a compelling case for change.
Please support our call for change by signing this petition. Let's advocate for the inclusion of post-security smoking sections to ensure all travelers can enjoy a smoother journey.
