It was the 16th of June, 2024. We were all out celebrating my brother's birthday at a club called Pop World. My sister, Maddy, was simply enjoying her evening, dancing and having fun like any person would, when someone decided to cruelly take advantage of her. Maddy was spiked and suffered a seizure. Her eyes rolled back, her speech slurred, and she collapsed onto the floor. No person should have to experience such a horrifying violation of their safety while trying to enjoy a night out.

We are calling for mandatory, thorough security checks for individuals entering clubs and pubs to prevent such incidents in the future. Every year, countless individuals become victims of drug-spiking in these establishments. This is not just an isolated incident, it is a growing epidemic. According to a Global Drug Survey in 2020, one in every three club-goers have at some point had their drinks spiked and these numbers are on the rise.

We must take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of all patrons. The implementation of thorough searches at the entrance of these venues can act as a deterrent to potential perpetrators and provide a safer environment for all. It's time to crucially address this pervasive issue and protect everyone's right to a safe night out.
