Improve detection of Breast Cancer with mandatory biopsies during Ultrasounds scan
The Issue
We need an improvement on detecting Breast Cancer prematurely by carrying out biopsies along with the first ultrasound scan when a woman or man feels a lumps on their breast !
Let’s catch it, kill it, scoop it out early when it comes to Breast Cancer. The law under the health care practices needs to have a mandatory mandate and procedure in place to carry out biopsies on all breast lumps for young and all women including men.
A lot of young women and men are turned away from hospitals and are told they have nothing to worry about after having an ultrasound. Then months or a year later they are diagnosed with Breast Cancer due to no biopsies being carried out.
Biopsies are crucial to definitively diagnosing cancer.
Biopsies can prevent women and men having to go through with a mastectomy which creates a lot of mental, psychological and physical trauma. Biopsies carried out beforehand will give women and men more other options what to do with their body part e.g instead of a mastectomy they could opt for a lumpectomy which is a less invasive outpatient procedure.
We need parliament, our government to change the law again. Not only for women but also for men who are referred under 2 weeks’ rule due to feeling a lump on their breast or experiencing a discharge from their nipple. Just to reiterate a biopsy is a definitively way to diagnosing cancer. Tony Blair executed the change of rule for all breast lump cases to be seen under the 2 weeks’ rule pathway however, we need an increased screening of breast via biopsy to save more women and men breasts as this will prevent the cancer cells spreading to other parts of the body !
Let’s remember the Covid slogan Catch it, Bin it, Kill it ! We couldn’t see Covid but we felt the symptoms, didn’t we ? This is the same with Breast Cancer you can’t see it but some symptoms will show up early so let’s Catch it, Kill it and Scoop it out by having biopsies upfront whilst having an ultrasound !
