Save Trafford College Outside Sports Facilities.
The Issue
PLEASE consider signing this petition to help stop the possibility of the construction of 40 houses being built on Trafford College Outside Sports Pitch.
We need to work with the college to ensure we can put a long term plan together to re open so everybody local to Trafford can enjoy this valuable land.
Local children study this subject and need it's facilities for obvious reasons.
Before the gates were locked, the area was used by locals of all ages throughout the week and at weekends. If these facilities are built on for a proposed housing development, key facilities for a sports qualification could be lost and the integrity of the course compromised.
Sending the Bulldozers onto Trafford College Sports Ground is wrong on so many levels. Trafford College is part of the fabric of Trafford.
Upgrading Trafford College Outside Sports Facilities is crucial for providing exceptional educational opportunities to the local students while offering an open space that is enjoyable for both students and visitors. Upgrading the campus to a high standard is essential in attracting new talent and creating a contemporary, lively environment that benefits everyone involved.
By enhancing Trafford College Outside Sports Facilities, we can ensure that it becomes a hub of educational excellence, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and personally. It is crucial to address the concerns related to additional traffic building 40 houses and the associated issues of pollution and congestion along Manchester Road. Furthermore, it is important to acknowledge the potential harm to green spaces and natural wild areas that could arise from the proposed changes. As the outside facilities sits directly next to a National Trust Wildlife Corridor.
Preserving green spaces and natural wild areas is equally vital. It is crucial to prioritize the protection and conservation of these areas.
Consider the impact on the local area and environment, with additional traffic servicing 40+ houses, and the associated pollution and congestion to and from Manchester Road. Not to mention the potential damage to green-space and natural wild areas.
If the bulldozers go onto Trafford College Sports Ground and build a replacement facility elsewhere, it is understandable that concerns may arise regarding the impact on sports-related courses. The decision to send a children to Trafford College to study sports becomes more complicated if the outdoor aspect of the course is not available on-site. In such a situation, individuals would naturally consider alternative options.
The below link gives some indication from residents of Stockport, but it shows zero benefits for residents of Trafford. Are Trafford council tax payers going to foot the bill?

Point 1: “Outdoor 3G All weather football pitch, 2 Outdoor Hardcourts effecting adjoining nature areas” was copied from your website & now removed!
Point 2: Building 40 houses on an already serviceable pitch should go against every principle Sport England hold. Sport England should work with partners to improve and upgrade existing facilities which would benefit Trafford College and the wider Trafford community now and for many years to come.
Point 3: Paperwork submitted by Trafford College has already agreed to pay £560k to have their on-site facilities ‘re housed’ on Clarendon Fields greenspace, Sale. 3.5 miles away? (This application has been refused).
Why would Trafford College pay £560k for new facilities when they could save £140k to upgrade current ones; (according to Trafford College’s planning application). Surely having on-site facilities is far more attractive to potential students, not to mention the additional costs in both time, money and pollution having to ferry students a 7-mile round trip each time outside facilities were required.
Point 4: Nobody is trying to suggest that a car park has “ecological value”. However, it does have value to staff and students who do not start at 9am and require parking on site. It is also a measure of student/staff numbers, so puzzling that the college would willfully sell prime car parking space. Also, the impact of a lack of parking would also be felt by the adjacent Stamford Brook development, who would also feel the impact of the 40 homes that could be built on the existing pitch and carpark.
Point 5: A 4m ‘buffer zone’ would protect just 14 feet of current green space. Manicured gardens and lawns provided by a building development would not produce a quality habitat for birds and other wildlife currently benefitting from the greenspace.
Point 6: ‘Evolving courses’ doesn’t normally mean making them more difficult to study. Investment from colleges such as Trafford should be ‘inward’ investment: expanding and updating, growing and developing the curriculum, not reducing key resources. Not building unsurmountable debts through mergers with badly rated institutions and accepting £31 million bailouts to rebuild infrastructure at the cost of potential jobs, carparks and sports pitch facilities.
The “Outdoor facilities” at other Trafford College Groups Campuses presumably refers to Stockport, which Trafford College have recently merged with (hence “Group”) which is incidentally almost 11 miles away from Trafford College.
Point 7: The pitch (and carpark too) only become “surplus to requirements” if they are made unusable by closing them. The pitch has indeed not been used for some 4.5 years which also coincides with Trafford College’s application to Trafford Council to sell the land. With regards the ‘limited community use’ it is a pity that the college could not have done more to utilise this facility and invite more use to local community groups.
Point 8: As previously mentioned, and as a matter of public record through the Trafford Council website, the ‘significant investment’ that Trafford College are making to relocate is £140k MORE expensive than their cheapest quote to have the existing pitch resurfaced.

I began this petition as a local resident of Stamford Brook, Broadheath where Trafford College is located. I feel making students travel isn't in their best interest, nor is another housing project in this area as we are already full to capacity so selling off land in order to build 40 houses will benefit nobody.
