The Issue

Calling all fans of The Good Doctor! We need to let ABC Network know that we are going to fight for our show. Let's make them hear our voices. It's not time to say goodbye to our beautiful show and amazing cast.

I'm sure I'm not the only fan who finds it strange that ABC would cancel a show that has been a good performer in ratings for 6 years. Why would they save a show like 911 from Fox Network, claim that Grey's Anatomy is still relevant after 20 years, then cancel The Good Doctor? How can they cancel The Good Doctor,  a very relevant show that has helped many people understand Autism a little better. A show about inclusion and diversity isn't relevant? Freddie expressed the desire to continue portraying Dr. Shaun Murphy,  Sony Pictures Television was willing to do anything possible to keep production costs down but no one from ABC Network met with them.  Instead they made the decision to cancel the show because reality shows, such as every iteration of The Bachelor, is cheaper.

I believe that even if there is a 1% chance of success it is worth fighting for our show rather than accept that there is no hope. We need to let the cast and crew know that we want The Good Doctor to continue after Season 7.

As a passionate viewer and advocate for representation, I am deeply moved by the character of Dr. Shaun Murphy in "The Good Doctor". This show is not just another medical drama; it's a beacon of representation for people with Autism. The lead character, Dr. Shaun Murphy, is an Autistic surgeon who breaks stereotypes and inspires many viewers like me.

"The Good Doctor" has been praised for its authentic portrayal of Autism, with Freddie Highmore's performance receiving critical acclaim (source: Television Critics Association). It has also made significant strides in raising awareness about Autism - a condition that affects 1 in 54 children in the U.S according to CDC estimates.

However, this groundbreaking series is at risk of ending on ABC. We cannot let this happen. There are still many aspects of Dr. Shaun Murphy's journey that need to be explored and countless stories left untold.

As an Autistic woman I am inspired by Dr. Murphy.  He is a beacon of hope for those of us who are different. His accomplishments and growth shows that those of us with ASD are much more than our quirks and mannerisms.  This character so brilliantly, lovingly and respectfully play by Freddie Highmore is so interesting.  Dr. Shaun Murphy makes me feel seen. It is a travesty and a shame that ABC Network has decided to cancel this beautiful show to save money rather than extend Freddie Highmore's contract.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for diversity and representation on television. You are sending a message to ABC that shows like "The Good Doctor" matter and deserve to continue their narrative.

Please sign this petition today and help us save "The Good Doctor".
