Vote for the Special Seats Bill to Increase Women Representation in NASS

Vote for the Special Seats Bill to Increase Women Representation in NASS
The Issue
The representation of women in positions of leadership in Nigeria especially in the houses of parliament where laws and policies are enacted for the good of the citizens is at an all time low. Nigeria is not functioning with her full potential as the country has not yet improved on the situation of enabling an environment that positions women and young women for governance. This affects the economic growth, impacts the kind of policies that gets passed, excludes marginalised and minority communities as well as persons with disabilities. Nigeria has great women who can occupy positions of influence however this vision is limited by systemic, political, cultural and gender bias
If nothing positive happens to the polity to increase number of women and marginalised groups and Nigeria takes no active action to demonstrate the importance of inclusion and diversity, the country will keep loosing Global standings and recognition for equity. Loose out on economic investments that centers women. minority groups and persons with disabilities and have a political agenda that is discriminatory.
Voting the Special Seats Bill by the legislatures in the House of Representatives and the Senate by end of 2025, will show that Nigeria, through the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Speaker and Dep.Speakers of parliament and legislators, get to change the trajectory of history and enable an inclusive society. It will provide space for women irrespective of abilities to be visible, heard and represented as well as increase the intervention of issues from a balanced and multi-dimensional lens.
Special Seats Bill Advocacy is a group of volunteers that are inclusive of PWDs, men, women, boys and girls, who are interested and willing to support this movement and see a Nation rise up the ranks of development.
National Hearing on the bill is scheduled for September, 22nd 2025: Voting the RSB is October 2025.
