As a 70-year-old man who has spent a good part of my life witnessing and countering harmful discrimination against the LGBT+ community, I am appalled and deeply affected by recent developments. Suella Braverman, the conservative MP, has made public her views concerning LGBT+ issues, which are, to say the least, deeply troubling, discriminatory, and filled with hate. 

In 2024, a year when acceptance and understanding should be commonplace, it is more than reprehensible to encounter such views from a public servant, whose role demands her to represent every citizen regardless of their sexual orientation or identity.

Statistics show that discrimination against the LGBT+ community leads to a higher risk of mental health issues, suicide, and other negative life outcomes (source: National Institute of Mental Health). We cannot stand idle while a person with such influence perpetuates the discriminatory and hateful narrative that can cause tangible damage to this community and its members.

We must raise our collective voice against such a dangerous stance. Raise your voice for the acceptance and understanding our society strives for.
