Shortage of paediatric pathologists

Shortage of paediatric pathologists
The Issue
In March 2024 we experienced an unthinkable tragedy - we lost our beautiful grandson, Max, at just 13 months old. Grieving for Max is hard enough for his parents Nicola and Lee and extended family but the ordeal is compounded by an additional factor that we never anticipated: a severe shortage of paediatric pathologists in the UK. Because of this shortage, we were told that we will have to wait for 8-10 agonizing months for our grandson's post mortem results. We have waited 4 so far
Our story is sadly not unique. Many bereaved families across the UK, and specially in regions like Northern Ireland, where there are no specialists, are being hit by this harsh reality. The children have to be flown over to the mainland for an autopsy due to a deficiency in specialized professionals. Currently, the posts for paediatric pathologists in the UK are only filled by 70%.
This situation adds undue strain to families like ours who are just trying to find closure and come to terms with their terrible loss. It is unacceptable that in a time of grief, parents and families must also endure such an agonizingly long wait for answers.
Use your voice to help us push for action. We call on the responsible authorities to address this critical shortage urgently by increasing recruitment and training for paediatric pathologists. Ensure that no family has to endure the agonizing wait for a child's post mortem results. Sign this petition to support our fight for a more efficient system for grieving families across the UK.
we now have contact with our local MP who is looking at ways to help us and to investigate this shortage of paediatric pathologists
We are now January 2025! A New Year !
A sad , not a Happy New Year for us as a family!- 10 months of waiting for answers
Our family is living an absolute nightmare!!!
We have managed to get through Xmas, New Year with family and close friends support
Please continue to sign and share we do not want this agonising wait for any other families in the future ! 💙🥲
