The Issue

Glasgow Roma community call on Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government, and elected officials to stop the closure of the Roma rights-based advice service in Glasgow. The Roma rights-based advice service has received financial support from the Glasgow Communities Fund to enable its delivery. However, in December 2025, our application for continued funding was "not recommended".

The Roma rights-based advice service provides essential support around language translation, access to housing, welfare assistance, immigration guidance, and employment support. The service has significantly exceeded all its targets and has led to substantial increases in income for Roma families experiencing in-work poverty, child poverty, and disability. This closure poses a severe threat to human rights and could violate the Equality Act 2010.

The decision to close this service could be catastrophic for the most vulnerable families in Govanhill. Closure of this service will have a serious impact on other service providers in the area, who would struggle to meet increased demand and provide the level of language support that many Roma families require.

Sign this petition to voice your support for keeping the Roma rights-based advice service open. Together, we can ensure that the Roma community in Glasgow continues to receive the support they so urgently need.
