Turning Point USA (TPUSA) should not be allowed to be a club on any TUSD campus because they stand for hate and racism making TUSD an unsafe environment for students and staff of color, female identified and members of the LGBTQ community.  TPUSA should not be permitted to meet on campus, or use the Sabino or TUSD name in their material.

Turning Point USA is noted by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the New Yorker as being a racist, homophobic organization.
From the SPLC website: TPUSA’s flirtation with racists and racism is well documented. In a December 2017 expose in The New Yorker, reporter Jane Mayer was provided screenshots of a text message from TPUSA’s (now former) national field director, Crystal Clanton, that read, “i hate black people. Like f--- them all… I hate blacks. End of story.”

Organizations and leadership such as this make TUSD an unsafe environment for Black students, families and staff. 

In 2017, the SPLC also noted TPUSA association with other hate groups at a Young America’s Foundation (YAF) Conference which included the anti-LGBT hate group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which has linked homosexuality to pedophilia, worked to criminalize same-sex relationships abroad, and claims a nefarious “homosexual agenda” is afoot which will damage or destroy society.

The Anti-Defamation League has reported that the TPUSA’s leadership and activists "have made multiple racist or bigoted comments" and have links to extremism.

According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, TPUSA has attempted to influence student government elections in an effort to "combat liberalism on college and university campuses."

 TPUSA was cofounded by fascist, hate-mongering, false facts purporting Charlie Kirk who serves as ED for the predatory, lying, racist “org” that actively receives funding from alt right donors, foundations and politicians. 

On their website, Turning Point USA advocates an anti-vaccine stance that puts other Tucson Unified School District students, staff, and families at risk. In addition they spew anti Asian rhetoric calling COVID-19 the “Chinese Virus”

The Turning Point chapter at Sabino High School has also held anti-mask protests in front of the school and car caravans flying the racist Gadsden flag used by Proud Boys, confederate veterans, the KKK and during the Jan. 6th insurrection. 

They also advocate against gun control and advocate for students to bring firearms on campus. 

The Tucson Unified School District has a responsibility to create a safe, equitable environment for all students on their campuses.
The existence of Turning Point on Sabino campus makes Sabino an inherently racist, exclusionary, unsafe environment for students not in Turning Point. 

Please stop white supremacy and racism at Tucson Unified School District Schools and pass policy that prohibits their presence on campus as well as associated racist imagery and symbols.
