The Issue

When I gave birth to my third child, I found myself navigating a complex and difficult path towards mental wellbeing. I took the challenging decision to stop taking prescribed medication and instead turn to the world of therapeutic research. Amid this personal journey, I was confronted by the harrowing realities of children and youths affected by mental health issues - from suicide to school shootings to interpersonal violence. All these paths of destruction, I realized, trace their roots back to trauma and childhood. This pushed me to the decision that is not just about raising my children right, it is about aiding others to do the same. It took a whole decade for me to discover my purpose, but once I did, the clarities it brought are profound.

Through this petition, we beg for the incorporation of mindfulness teachings into the fabric of our education system, making it as compulsory as immunizations. Moreover, we also request mandatory annual mental health evaluations by professional therapists for all students, creating an environment where their mental wellbeing is prioritized and cared for.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) data shows that nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2018. This undeniable prevalence calls out for mindfulness training from an early age, as it can improve emotional regulation, nurture empathy and foster resilience.

Let's create a future where our children's mental wellbeing is as much a part of their education as their physical health. Sign this petition and make a difference.
