Keep PGCPS Virtual Learning Program In Place For Remainder of 2021/2022 School Year

The Issue

In an e-newsletter from PGCPS sent to parents on December 13, 2021, PGCPS confirmed that the K-6 Virtual Learning Program will end on Friday, January 28 and students will return to school in person on Monday, January 31. This comes only 2 days before PGCPS CEO, Monica Goldson, announced the closing of 3 county schools until Monday, January 3 due to an alarming rise in Covid outbreaks. As we know, the Delta Variant is leading the charge in Covid outbreaks in our county, with Omicron not too far behind. Dr. Anthony Fauci predicts that we will see a spike in Covid outbreaks after the holidays.

I, Danielle Wood, am petitioning, CEO Monica Goldson and the PGCPS School Board to take all necessary steps and precautions to protect our children and keep The Virtual Learning Program in place for the remainder of the 2021/2022 School Year. I am also petitioning to reopen the option to parents who would like to rescind their original decision of sending their children to school in person based on their original pre-fall response. Given current circumstances, these parents should at this point be given the opportunity to select virtual learning for their student(s).
