My son, D'Karious (King) Jenkins, was wrongfully removed from DCF custody and has yet to return home. His case demands immediate investigation. However, brushing aside our pleas, this viable option was ignored incomprehensibly. In the United States, over 400,000 children are in foster care on any given day (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2019). D’Karious is one of these many children. His removal from his home and the refusal to place him with a family member raise critical questions about how the system assesses and prioritizes familial placements.
