White County Prosecutor Robert Guy: Charge Garett Kirts For Murdering Charles Ray Hanish

We desperately need your help. Charles ‘Ray’ Hanish was killed by Garett Kirts (he confessed) in March of 2019. The prosecutor says Ray was not murdered and that it was an accident, due to “the lifestyle your son lived, something like this was bound to happen.”-Robert Guy. March 13th, 2019, was the last time Charles Ray Hanish, 49, of Reynolds, Indiana was in communication with anyone other than his killer. One communication was with his sister Shar, in the wee hours of the 13th. He told her that someone had reached out to him via a dating app. At that time this was nothing out of the ordinary but in hindsight this would become a focal point for his family on their quest for justice for Ray.
By March 17th, 2019, Ray’s family knew something was very wrong. It wasn’t like him to ignore his loved ones, especially his mom. Ray was very dependable and when he didn’t show up for work on the 17th, his mom knew she had to make that phone call that is every parents worst nightmare. She reported him missing and requested a welfare check at Ray’s home.
Sadly, the police officers discovered Ray’s body in his home. He had been dead for approximately four days. After Ray’s funeral his family went to his home to start gathering some of his belongings. What they walked into was completely shocking. His once neat and tidy home was trashed and robbed! They called the coroner but he said Ray had died of natural causes and the death certificate stated this as well. They trusted these officials and tried to put what they found out of their mind.
However, FIVE months later these officials found themselves in a big pickle when Ray’s KILLER confessed. In September, they changed his death certificate to, “homicide; asphyxia due to ligature strangulation”, instead of “Natural Causes”.
White County Prosecutor Robert Guy, conducted a meeting with Ray’s family, telling them that Garett Kenneth Kirts had confessed to killing him during “a rough sex act” and IF there even was a crime committed it was not murder. He told Ray’s sweet mother that “with the lifestyle your son lived, something like this was bound to happen.” when she questioned this alleged accident. You see, NOT ONE official asked Ray’s family or friends a single question about the victim they found bound in his own bedroom! They didn’t ask about his housekeeping. They didn’t ask if he allowed smoking in his home. They didn’t ask if he was a known party animal. They didn’t ask what his past relationships were like. Nothing. They decided Ray was a kinky homosexual living a drug and drink fueled party life based on the scene of the crime.
Ray’s family now knew that the items they found in Ray’s trashed home, plus all of the stolen items, were related to his death. In March they found a cell phone belonging to a Ashley Garth, a bullet amongst the remnants of a raging party. His car was stolen, along with his wallet, cell phone, and TV. Do you see the pickle they are in if they were to charge Garrett? Shameful.
Now to the alleged killer, Garett Kirts. He strangled his girlfriend, Ashley Garth, a month BEFORE Ray’s homicide, reportedly strangling her to unconsciousness, waking her, and repeating several times. Why? She didn’t want to give him her cell phone, the affidavit alleged. A little over a month AFTER Ray’s homicide Garett and Ashley Garth (remember that cell phone not collected into evidence? Yep, it’s one in the same!)) along with a few others, viciously, intentionally, with premeditation, killed Nicole Bowen. Nicole was strangled with multiple ligatures. Remember Ray's death certificate? Ligature Strangulation!
He has pleaded guilty to her murder and is awaiting sentencing in January of 2021. He was charged with the strangulation of Ashley Garth and those charges were dropped shortly after him pleading guilty to murder.
What about Ray? Why do they believe him when he said Ray’s death was an accident, light of his criminal history?? Why does Ray not deserve his own justice? Does prejudice and mishandling of his case play a role as to why they refuse to charge him? We think so!
We believe Ray was murdered and our belief in that was greatly strengthened when a series of interviews, from the Newton County Jail, were released on the YouTube channel, Open Secrets. In these interviews Garett and Christopher Mathis, a co-conspirator in Nicole’s murder, discuss the cases of Nicole, Ray, and the allegation, by the YouTuber, that Garrett murdered Abigail Williams and Liberty German, in Delphi, Indiana on 2/13/2017. When she asked about Ray, Garett smirkingly states that he was told, “they don’t have enough on me”, and when asked if he was bisexual or gay, he said, “no”. The YouTuber claims that in interviews not released, Garett confessed to how he really killed Ray. She told me he told her he planned this for months, luring Ray, via a dating app for gay men. He told her he killed Ray and staged the scene to make it LOOK like a rough sex act gone wrong as well as to humiliate Ray. This was somewhat confirmed when she released a interview with Christopher Mathis in which he says, “Did he tell you how he played stalker and creeped through Grindr and everything?...To make a profile just to hunt them down, just to...oh man...that’s more than sick, it’s, it’s evil.” BY THE WAY, ALL OF THESE VIDEO CALLS ARE RECORDED BY THE NEWTON COUNTY JAIL AND CAN BE RETRIEVED BY WHITE COUNTY PROSECUTOR ROBERT GUY, IF HE CARES TO HEAR THE TRUTH.
We hope our petition and your signatures will influence his decision. If not, we hope to get the attention of the attorney general and governor of Indiana to launch an internal investigation into the possible mishandling of Ray’s case.

Charles ‘Ray’ Hanish, was the kind of man you feel you knew even if you never met him. You know you missed out for not knowing him and those that did are better for knowing Ray. He was an LPN, living in Reynolds, Indiana. He was a gay man in search for his forever love. He was SO many more great things and he was also just a normal man doing normal every day things...just like you and your loved ones. Ray wrote this; ”Be careful as to not leave permanent scars on someone else’s heart.” When I read that it changed me. Ray changed me. His family changed me. I am better for having the privilege of knowing Ray through his family’s eyes. I am better for having them in my life. And lastly, Ray was a victim of murder, at the hands of Garett Kenneth Kirts. His CONFESSED killer. Yet he has not been charged.
Will you please allow me to take you on the journey, that Miss Dottie, Ray’s beautiful sweet mother, and her amazing family have had to endure since March 13th, 2019 and are still enduring? I can promise you two things:
1. You will be moved by their love, patience, and trust.
2. You will be beyond angry by the way they have been treated.

- Can you imagine being told your loved one was a victim of homicide, FIVE months AFTER being told your loved one died of “natural causes”?
- Can you imagine walking into your loved ones home and finding it in a state of disarray, knowing this is not how your loved one lived? Finding cigarette butts, solo cups, a bullet, trash, and a cell phone. Yet your loved ones, TV, wallet, cell phone, and car where missing. AND getting no answer as to why?
- Can you imagine your loved ones Death Certificate being changed, ONLY because the killer confessed?
- Can you imagine a prosecutor telling you that your loved one was at fault for their own murder because of “the lifestyle he lived, something like this was bound to happen.”-Robert Guy? Knowing No One bothered to ask the people who KNEW your loved one who They REALLY Were.
- Can you imagine a prosecutor telling you that your loved ones homicide was because of a “rough sex act gone wrong” and having no idea what that even means?
- Can you imagine being told that, even though your loved ones killer confessed, it wasn’t “cost effective” to extradite? IF there was even a crime at all...
- Can you imagine finding out that your loved ones killer is charged with Strangulation and Domestic Battery against a name that you know because it was HER cellphone you found in your loved ones home five months ago? And this happened just a month and some days BEFORE he killed your loved one? AND AND reading the paper and finding out that he reportedly repeatedly strangled her, letting her pass out, only to wake up and repeat?!?
- Can you imagine finding out that your loved ones killer is charged with Murder-Intentional Killing Of Another, SIXTEEN DAYS after he killed your loved one? AND reading the paper and finding out that he and his friends tortured and strangled her until she was dead?!?
- Can you imagine your loved ones killer telling a YouTube creator, “I was told they don’t have enough to charge me.” And his buddy telling YouTube, “Did he tell you how he played stalker and creeped through Grindr and everything?...To make a profile just to hunt them down, just to...oh man.”?
- Can you imagine feeling like your loved ones lifestyle, OF DARING TO BE A GAY MAN IN RURAL INDIANA is the reason not very many even care? Feeling like the reason why, White County Prosecutor Robert Guy isn’t charging his killer is because of one of the following reasons; bigotry, botched investigation, local politics, money, or all of the above?
