Honor Henry – Pass a Red Flag Law in Wisconsin
The Issue
My son Henry was kind, thoughtful, and wise beyond his years.
At just 16, he carried a calm and generous spirit that touched everyone he met. He helped others without hesitation and brought light into the lives around him. He is my youngest son, one of my four sons, and my whole world.
On April 16, 2021, that world was shattered.
During a scheduled visit, Henry was murdered in his sleep by his own father—a man who had a known history of emotional abuse, physical violence, and manipulative behavior. After killing Henry, he turned the gun on himself.
Henry’s father was a former police officer who owned several firearms. Despite all the warning signs—his instability, aggression, and past abuse—there was no legal way for me to intervene. No tool. No law in place that could have allowed me or law enforcement to remove his weapons before it was too late.
Henry was afraid. But like so many children in similar situations, his fear kept him silent.
Wisconsin has no Red Flag Law. Twenty other U.S. states do. Red Flag Laws (also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders) allow family members or police to ask a court to temporarily remove firearms from someone who poses a danger to themselves or others.
These laws don’t take guns away from responsible citizens. They are carefully crafted to protect lives and give families a legal path to act when they see someone spiraling into danger. A Red Flag Law could have saved my son.
I am calling on the Wisconsin Legislature to pass “Henry’s Law.”
This is a Red Flag Law in memory of my son—and in the hope of saving others. I am telling Henry’s story because he cannot. I will fight for this law so that no other parent has to suffer what I live with every day.
This petition is not political. It’s personal. It’s about public safety. It’s about domestic violence. It’s about our children.
Please: sign this petition. Share it. Raise your voice.
Let’s bring Henry’s Law to Wisconsin—and help prevent another tragedy before it happens. Do it for Henry. Do it for every family that deserves a chance to act.
